We had the good fortune of connecting with Tracy Conner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tracy, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
So one of the biggest reason for me starting my own photography business besides a huge passion for beautiful lifestyle photography, was building a family schedule and life that allowed me to be home more with my children during the day while they are young. I love that I am able to build my schedule around my family schedule and it has created a lot more balance for me vs working in my corporate that was 8-5 + getting on my computer after my kiddos were in bed. As a small business owner it can be hard to create and stick to boundaries as needed to protect your time but I have tried to make sure that I say no when something doesn’t workout with my schedule and stay true to the reason that I started my business which was to spend more time with my children while they were little. During different season/times of the year, I am definitely busier than other which can be hard to have balance all year round.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am lifestyle maternity, newborn and family photography and I love capturing candid moments of joy, love and chaos for families. I love motherhood and capturing beautiful moments for mothers as they are usually the one behind the camera, so giving them the chance to be in sweet moments with their babies and little ones make me so happy. One of things that I offer my clients that sets me apart is my client closet – I have over 30 dresses that clients can choose from for their maternity or newborn session with me. My clients love this offering being pregnant and post baby, they don’t have to worry about buying a dress when they don’t know how things will fit. Before starting my photography business, I worked at an advertising agency on the Account Management team where I managed client communications & creative projects for brands that we worked with including Verizon, Denny’s and Haverty’s. While I wasn’t on the creative team, I feel like I learned a eye for good creative and lots of great things on marketing to your ideal client. So before starting my business I made sure to know exactly what I wanted my brand to look and feel like along with my ideal client.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Greenville has so many amazing things to offer people visiting and those that live there. We would start with going to Downtown Live which is in the heart of the city on Thursday evenings for live music and drinks. Then we would go to dinner at Soby’s which is one of the oldest restaurants on main street with great outdoor seating. The next day we would rent bikes and do a little morning ride on the Swamp Rabbit trail starting in Greenville and riding to Travelers Rest. We would stop for a late breakfast at Tandem in TR where we get the best latte along with amazing crepes. On our way back into Greenville on our bike ride, we would stop for a cold drink at The Commons which is right on the trail and at the edge of Unity Park. We would end our day for going to Gather which is a storage container food area that has lots of great drinks and food vendors. Saturday we would start the day be going to the Saturday Farmers Market which is Downtown Greenville, where there are lots of amazing vendors, live music and much more to see. Saturday afternoon/evening, we would take a stroll through Liberty Park to take in the views of the beautiful waterfall that is the center piece of DT and then grab dinner/drinks at the Grand Bohemian which also has a view of the falls. Sunday we would take a drive up to the Mountains about an hour away to rent paddle boards or a boat and take in the view of Lake Jocasse.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband has been a huge supporter of me taking a leap and going out to finally start my photography business. I had wanted to do it for years and he was so supportive me quitting my Advertising Management job which paid a great salary to do what I was really passionate about. I also had so many wonderful friends that also cheered me on and supported me in my business as well. Lastly I found super important in starting my business was doing a Educational Photography workshop where I got to learn from lots of other photographers in the industry and get work for my portfolio as well.
