We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamicka Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tamicka, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My main thought process behind starting my own business was how am I able to use my gift outside the 4 walls of a school.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is unique because it goes beyond traditional tutoring. We focus on all aspects of education, offering support to both the educator and the child. We provide students with the opportunity to receive exposure and enrichment in STEAM fields and we help students unlock their full potential academically by offering small group and one on one sessions. Additionally, we offer guidance to teachers who are working toward their teaching certification, ensuring they have the tools and resources they need to succeed in their careers. This holistic approach ensures that everyone involved in the educational process is supported and empowered to excel.

Getting to where I am today was a process that began in my younger days when I realized that education was my calling. I always knew I wanted to help people learn new things and make a positive impact in their lives. Was it easy? Not at all. The road was challenging and tested my faith many times. But through those challenges, I learned valuable lessons about self-reflection, perseverance, and the importance of embracing failure as a stepping stone to growth. Each setback taught me to start over, stronger and more determined than before.

I want the world to know that it is possible to do hard things. My journey is proof that, with faith, determination, and perseverance, One can excel at all things.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting Columbia, SC, we’d definitely spend time downtown and in Lexington. Downtown has a vibrant mix of local shops, delicious restaurants, and plenty of cool spots to explore. Lexington is also a favorite because of its charming local vibe, family-friendly activities, and unique places to eat and shop. Whether we’re grabbing a bite or exploring the community, there’s always something fun and interesting to experience.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shout-out to Jesus Christ, my Lord and savior, who created me to be an educator. Then, to my incredible family and friends, both near and far. Special thanks to my amazing husband, Michael, my parents Tim, Tina, and Lorenzo, and to the many others who have supported me along the way and to those who continue to inspire and uplift me.
