We had the good fortune of connecting with Skii and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi SKII, how do you define success?
I define success as having wayyy more than enough money to cover needs and wants of you and your children, if you have kids, and most importantly being HAPPY. When you watch documentaries or scroll on the timeline you’ll see clearly a lot of “rich” “people are not truly happy. So once I have checked off BOTH boxes I’ll feel I accomplished success.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others is that the focus is on the art of it all. I’m not selling my body to you, I’m selling my music and quality content. I’m not just talking about sex and taking money, I’m speaking on all levels of emotion and being vulnerable. The creativity is at the forefront with me and I’m proud to know people are watching or looking because of my art and not my body, especially as a female rapper. I’m most excited about what I’ll create over time and the growth that every one will get to witness. I got where I am today by advocating for myself like nobody else can. You are your biggest advocate and closed mouths don’t get fed. It’s not easy asking for things as someone who hates asking for things but in this industry you have to. It’s hard navigating the industry as a female because not everyone has the right intentions or they feel they can get one over on you. I try to overcome these challenges by being a no bull sh** kind of person. Straight to business or we don’t have much to talk about. I gets down. I don’t play. Lessons I’ve learned along the way is have contracts. When doing business over a certain dollar amount I require contracts or something written spelling out exactly what I’m getting and what they get from me. This way everybody is happy, including a judge when they realize the decision is easy if things go wrong. I want the world to know I’m not perfect and nobody is. When you think of SKII’s brand think of a bedazzled pink trap princess who slaps people from time to time and is working on being better everyday. I just invited you guys behind the scenes to see the process and hear some of the struggles I’ve overcome in my music.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I just moved back to South Carolina in July so I’ll answer this as if I was still in Hawaii. I lived on Oahu for almost 4 years and If my best friend came to visit I would definitely take them to Oh my grill to eat some Hawaiian barbecue, get the short rib plate teriyaki sauce on the side. They should call that the SKII meal because I eat it so much. Then we would book some excursions in Honolulu. My favorites I’ve done are the submarine scooter where you have a helmet like sandy from SpongeBob and go to the bottom of the ocean it’s crazy. Another one is the swimming with sharks and I love to Jet ski. When we want to go to the club I’d check @BagBoyzEnt instagram and hit their next event because it’s always lit. We’d likely end up at Boda or Club Mystique in Honolulu. The rest would be beach days and walking in Waikiki or hit up Ala Moana mall.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My professional journey as an artists has really just begun. I have to give a Shout Out to my friend and fellow artist JUJU. I was at a point where I felt like music wasn’t the easiest route and I was going to be done but he told me I had so much potential, booked me to open for Stunna Girl for my first show in Honolulu, Hawaii, and ever since then my foot has been on the gas and it’s never coming off. Honorable mentions to my best friend Andre and my production team Painfully Gifted Visuals. Without Andre I would have stopped recording music a long time ago. My team and I are just getting started. They keep me creative and on track which I need.
