We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Boykin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melissa, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process was to do something I loved so I’d never have to work another day in my life. To be of good service to humanity by offering services that speak for themselves. The Halotherapy room was something my Hometown needed to help people with allergies, asthma, arthritis issues and so much more. My esthetics practice was to help people by being more affordable. For those who couldn’t afford higher end spa treatments the opportunity to get help with their skin care needs and help everyone that comes through my doors. I pride myself on helping others and I am grateful for all who come through my doors.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What I feel sets my business apart from anyone else’s locally would be that I offer the Halotherapy room/ a Himalayan salt room that holistically treats a wide array of issues and is a blessing to everyone who comes in to relax. It’s truly a relaxing experience. While it was not easy to pull together, especially during Covid there were supply constraints and delays as with anything. If it’s worth having, you got to have patience. I believe if it’s worth having, it’s worth waiting for. And while there was a lot of sacrifice there was also a lot humility found by Gods grace. Through out the entire process.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a friend to visit Sumter, SC. I’d definitely want them to visit Swans Lake Gardens preferably in the month of May. I’d love for them to devote a day to my spa where I could pamper them with a facial, Infarred sauna, foot detox, and saltroom session. Then we’d try locally owned small business restaurants which offer a wide variety of different style foods that are local staples.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There is truly to many people I owe my success too. But to narrow it down to only a few, I’d like to start with my educators at SEEI/ Courtney Sykes Owner/Instructor & Instructor Shannon Cavey- these Ladies are Rockstars and truly saw something in me. Something I will always be so grateful for, it was more than an education. It was a lot of passion and heart instilled in me to seek my dreams. Now the next would be My Mom she never stopped believing in me, and to this day is one of my biggest supporters.
Yes her heart was in it as much as mine when I first started out & things were slow to grow. She never doubted my dreams and encouraged me to keep pushing.
And for my kids while the majority are grown they were my reason. To be better and want better for them.
And last but not least by any means, my grandmother. While she never got to see it come to fruition. I wouldn’t be who I am without her influence, morals, and guidance.
