We had the good fortune of connecting with Jag Thandi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jag, how do you define success?
Success, to me, is a deeply personal concept that extends far beyond conventional measures. At its core, success is about fulfillment, growth, and making a positive impact in both my own life and the lives of others.
It’s about waking up each day with a sense of purpose and passion, knowing that I’m aligned with my values and living authentically. Success is finding joy in the journey, relishing the process of continual self-discovery and growth.
It’s about fostering deep connections, true success is measured not by the size of my bank account, but by the quality of my relationships and the positive impact I have on those around me.
Success also involves pushing boundaries and stepping outside of my comfort zone. It’s about embracing challenges and setbacks as opportunities for growth and learning.
It is about leaving a lasting legacy. With using my talents to make a meaningful difference in the world, whether through philanthropy, advocacy, or simply by being a source of inspiration and support to others.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Photography isn’t just a job for me; it’s my passion, my art, and my way of capturing the beauty and emotion of life’s most precious moments. What sets me apart from others is my unique blend of creativity, technical skill, and genuine connection with my clients.
I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built with my clients and the trust they place in me to document their love stories. There’s nothing more rewarding than knowing that my photographs will be cherished for generations to come.
Having spent the majority of my life entrenched in the world of engineering, I built a career in a field that demanded precision, problem-solving, and technical prowess. While the path of an engineer provided stability and financial security, I found myself creatively unfulfilled. Despite excelling in my profession, there was a lingering sense of something missing, a yearning to explore a different path.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that I’m more than just a photographer; I’m a storyteller. Looking back, I realize that embracing risk has been instrumental in shaping the trajectory of my life. It has taught me the importance of following my heart and pursuing my passions wholeheartedly.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First we’d start off with breakfast at Cafe Medina in downtown Vancouver, then off to explore Stanley Park, renting bikes to cycle around the seawall. Finishing up for dinner at Cactus Club in Coal Harbour where we walk through the city at night.
Would start out at Granville Island Public Market, grabbing quick bites will adventuring through each vendor. Then making out way to Gastown to look at boutique shops, and the iconic Steam Clock. Grabbing lunch at the Spaghetti factory which is a local favourite. Finishing up with a few share plates at L’Abattoir for dinner.
We can spend time explore Grouse Mountain, grabbing a bite there. Finishing up the mountain we can head to Kits beach to enjoy some sunshine and R&R. Heading over to yaletown for dinner at Tasty Indian Bistro.
Will start off on Robson grabbing a quick breakfast at Pauls, then walking over to the Vancouver Art Museum. Heading over to the Chinese Garden.
A great day trip is Whistler Village which offers a variety of activities such as mountain biking, hiking and relaxing. Spending the day at Scandinave Spa where we will get some well deserved relaxation.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without a doubt, I owe a significant portion of my journey to the unwavering support, guidance, and encouragement of my family and friends. Their belief in my abilities and their willingness to stand by me through thick and thin have been the backbone of my success.
I also want to acknowledge the invaluable mentorship I’ve received along the way. Whether it was a former colleague who took me under their wing or a seasoned professional who offered sage advice, their guidance has been instrumental in shaping my career.
My journey has been shaped by the collective efforts and contributions of numerous individuals, each playing a unique role in my story. I am humbled and grateful for their presence in my life, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.
