We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabrielle Bankston and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gabrielle, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I make it a habit to network with local professionals in the health and wellness field. In Charleston, we stick together. The transplants love that and this is why the city has grown so much over the years. I’ve made friends with other therapists, doctors, you name it. It is our goal to create the best team for our patients. This is why I make an effort to get to know who I’m working with. It’s all about communication and support. We host each other’s events. We recommend patients that are the best fit for our personalities and specialties. We keep each other healthy. As a therapist, I put a good bit of wear and tear on my body. This is why I love having friends in the industry that are here to help me keep myself healthy as well. We care for each other so we can continue to serve our community.
It isn’t easy caring for others. So having a network of people that have your back is important. We hold each other accountable while providing safe spaces for us to release our frustrations. A great way to start networking is being a customer. I practically workout everywhere for free because I’m always trying new workouts and meeting new instructors. Someone is always offering a free course or scan or trial or something. I use that as an opportunity to get to know that person and their brand. People want to connect, you just have to foster those opportunities that allow you to find them.
To be honest it’s a blessing having people in your network. It is truly the key to my success.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I own a small one woman practice at this time. I started working in a Chiropractor’s office in 2013. I stand out from others because I offer care that’s patient centered and a health advocate first. This means that if I can’t help you I want to help you find someone who can.
It wasn’t easy getting to where I am today but it certainly not impossible. Honestly, it’s about showing up everyday.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my non local friends come into town for a visit I like to take them to the Gardens. I’m a Garden Girlie so I love being outside with flowers. Magnolia Garden has a beautiful butterfly garden is ranked one of the most beautiful gardens in America. Cypress is breath taking as we’ve all seen in the Notebook. It’s even better in REAL LIFE! For food I love Jackrabbit Filly and High Cotton. The staff and food at both are superb. And of course for fun we love to lounge on the beach and kayak. I’m a bit of a tomboy so motorcycle rides and nature trails are my idea of fun.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to my Sorority Sister Brittany Victoria for suggesting that I try a reading list she loved. It was entitled ’10 Books to Read if you Want to Slay like Beyonce’. This list included books like Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes and Nice Girls Don’t Get Rich by Lois P. Frankel. These and many other books changed my way of thinking about being a woman and managing my owns career and financial goals.
Nice Girls Don’t Get Rich was the perfect kick in the butt that I needed to get on track with my financial goals. Year of Yes was so relatable that I couldn’t help but feel inspired to enjoy and live my life to it’s fullest. I love to read and to be honest I started that list and have been reading for inspiration and insight ever since.
