We had the good fortune of connecting with Eichel Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eichel, what is the most important factor behind your success?
It’s people. It’s always been people. I have been surrounded by the best of us, at every stop. I’ve had great leaders, great friends, and mentors. I’ve had great adversaries, that have pushed me to be better, and to lead differently. People have made me.

From high school, to college, to that first job at TCU, to my interns at Cincinnati, to the team I’m currently building here at South Carolina, all these amazing souls have my forever gratitude. Without them, I’m not here.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been telling stories my entire life.

It’s the most important part of me. I got into creative video while studying at Mizzou and working with the baseball team. That’s really where I honed these skills and started to realize I had a gift. Storytelling I think is something people think about, but not on a deep methodical level. That’s something that I tried to hang my hat on. A lot of people can make cool videos, but I wanted to tell stories better than anyone else in the country. From Mizzou, to TCU, Cincinnati, and now being at South Carolina, stories have driven my career and passion. It’s been such a fun journey, but a hard one. This industry is new and ever-changing, and change can be hard. But it also can be exciting.

In my current role overseeing all non-football creative for South Carolina Athletics, my roots have never been more important. This is the most rewarding yet hardest job I’ve ever had. We want to be the best, tell the best stories, and have the best culture. That takes work. A lot of work. But all those things I’ve learned at the places I’ve been before have led to this place.

The most important lesson I’ve learned is to find your voice and say something significant. A highschool teach of mine told me that. I know that my voice is important and has reach. I want to use it to make the world a better place, a more tolerant and accepting place. Everyone deserves a fair shot at their American Dream.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ve been here about six months, but I’ve visited many times before and Columbia is just a special place. There are so many things to do. So many great restaurants like Ruby Sunshine, D’s, Kaminskys, etc. So many great areas like Main Street, Five Points, and the Vista. Nothing beats going to Soda City on a Saturday. And obviously, Saturdays during football season are a sight to behold. There are always new places to grab a drink, catch a game, and just be with friends and family. There’s a little something for everyone here.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom is the most important person in my story. Always has been. She’s allowed me to do all these amazing things, and take risks, and be happy. None of it is possible without her.
