We had the good fortune of connecting with Nerick Perry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nerick, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I love to be creative and solve a challenge. So, when I became a stay-at-home parent recently, I had more time to rediscover my love of reading. Soon I had a Kindle and it needed to be cute. I started designing stickers that I loved, and my friend encouraged me to put them on Etsy because she knew other people would love them too. I really enjoy the flexibility that owning my own business gives me. I can take care of my kids and fill orders at naptime. It’s definitely not easy, but I enjoy the creative outlet and when other people like my ideas too. I continually add more items and designs as time allows to grow my business. I have goals and I just keep showing up everyday to reach them.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My Etsy shop carries fun bookish stickers and inserts to decorate your e-reader, laptop and more. We also have magnetic bookmarks for the reader who loves physical books. Every item is made by hand and with attention to detail, with high quality material. You can see by the reviews; everyone is impressed with the quality of products. I would have to say, consistency is key to being successful. It can be a challenge to consistently show up on social media sometimes, especially with young kids but consistency pays off and shows your customer that you are dependable and trustworthy. I plan to keep growing our inventory of fun bookish stickers and products in the future, so follow us on Instagram or Etsy to watch us grow.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Our little corner of South Carolina is great, depending on the weather, you can spend the day on Lake Keowee or Hartwell. I love to hang out and grab a drink at Keowee Brewery, they also have live music every week. I support at least 3 of the local coffee shops on a rotation with Brews on the Alley being one of them. I love to stop in First Chapter Bookshop to talk books or small business and find a new read. There are so many more possibilities in our golden corner, but that is just a start.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have 3 great book reading friends who are always encouraging me and listening to my crazy ideas! They are Katie, Sarah and Tiffany! They have definitely pushed me to put my stickers and bookish items out in the world.
