We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Dodd and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chris, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
In terms of work-life balance, this one has always been an on-the-job type of lesson for me to learn. And to be honest the answer to this problem for many people is right in the question. The key word is just that, “balance” & how you find that balance is different for everyone and there is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. If you find yourself struggling with balance I think the first step is to sit back and really be completely honest with yourself & what your goals are & what exactly it is that you are trying to accomplish. This is without a doubt the most mentally clearing & important step to finding your balance. If you are trying to accomplish more than the average person than you are going to have to come to terms with sacrifices that the average person may not have to make. And the opposite side if that is equally important. Maybe you decide to quit your job & start working for yourself & start a business. Maybe a year down the line when you’ve sacrificed all of your time with your friends & family & you’re not happy, maybe you realize working for yourself is not for you. And thats completely okay & at least you’ll never have to live with the what if thought in your head. The sooner you can get aligned with what your values & your goals are the better, the rest will fall into place & your decisions along your path will be easier to stick to.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets me apart from others in my field is my self-awareness of not only myself but my industry as well. I do a lot of work outside of my craft to ensure that I am on my way to being the best version that I can possibly be. I also have a no quit no excuse work ethic that I truly gathered from my time as a skateboarder. I’ve found if you are able to identify what you’re good at within your lane & then relentlessly go all in on that thing until you are excellent at it, thats what will separate you from the rest.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Anything & everything I’ve accomplished in my life in the last decade comes down to the support of my wonderful fiancee. She’s supported every entrepreneurial decision I’ve made & worked just as hard alongside me & has been a voice of reason at times that I’ve needed it as well. The only thing I would change about that is I wish I would listen to her more sometimes! lol. Having her in my life has been so integral to keeping me grounded and focused on what matters most and truly there to reinstill my beliefs & morals as well. We’re both on the same page and work hard together & help each other double down on what actually matters in life, our health, our kids, our families as well as our personal satisfaction with our careers & life choices.
