We had the good fortune of connecting with Zacora Atyire’ Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zacora, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?

I wanted to build my own brand, especially having the passion, ooze, and zeal as a child. Knowing and understanding the complexities of my health challenges, I knew I needed to push for a solid foundation to secure my health and wealth. The encouragement of my grandmother with the “Unfashionable hospital gowns” that I wore while in the hospital, encouraged me to cooperate with the doctors’ orders for an early discharge. For every hospital stay at discharge Budd would buy me a new outfit. It was after her (Budd) passing in 2016 and my 2017 hospital stay, I realized I wanted to pursue a more “fashionable” approach as an independent model, future fashionista, and fashion guru. So, today I’m introducing to you my brand, the ZAS Company, LLC.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

As Psalms 139;14-I will praise You, for [a] I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well. I knew GOD had his hand on my life at an early age; it was a given!! Though being challenged with multiple health conditions my faith remain and still is focused on God; all because my grandmother and mother prayed over and with me.

My motivation for fashion started with me being hospitalized frequently. Though not the most fashionably gowns, for every night’s stay at the hospital my grandmother would buy me an outfit after I was discharged. She would say… ” Zacora, those gowns like nice on you but Budd’s going to buy you some ‘nicer looking’ ones when you get discharged.” Once discharged, she would buy me new outfits from “Gymboree” every Thursday;  that was Budd’s shopping day for me. From there, my passion grew stronger in the interest of modeling and fashion as she and my mom would have me pretend to “walk-the-runway” as I tried on my outfits.

I’ve learned in every challenge there is a purpose, but one must recognize it. It wasn’t until later when I recognized my purpose was in wearing the “ unfashionable hospital gowns” that ooze my passion  towards the world of modeling and fashion.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

My mom, LaToya D. Scott, “Mama”, who is the world’s greatest mom and by far the “MOM OF THE NATION!” She always put herself behind to accommodate and support  me. Rather I was sick or well, she’s there. Being in the hospital for 2 months after being born, my mom kept a diary. As I got older, she shared the diary with me and I was in tears; she noted every oz I drunk, stool I made, nurse that cared for me, and times (am/pm). I felt the love, care, and security that she held for me from her womb.

So, yes, my Mama is my hero and warrior. I’ve never heard her tell me she’s tired of doing anything for me. If I thought about it, my mom would do it! I can recall  starting  school K-4, my mom would walk me to class every day  until I was in the 4th grade when the school put safety measures in place that did not allow parents in the building during certain times. I was never a minute late, not to mention, she would wait an hour and a half in the car rider line in the evenings, so I didn’t have to wait or feel like she wasn’t there on time.  Looking back, I now realize how much her favorite quote means to her when she says…” The Sky Is Not the Limit, It’s Just A View!” There was no LIMIT she wouldn’t go for me.

As far as my grandmother, the late Evelyn A. Scott-Smalls, aka Budd, she was the GOAT! She was the grandma that any grandchild would desire. She was an encourager, sower, prayer warrior, helper, and a people lover. Budd never stopped; she always gave her last to help others. I remember one of our cousin’s died in January 2014 and it was Coooooolllld; probably 40-50 degrees here in South Carolina. Budd had a coat she’d  never worn before until the day of the funeral. My cousin Ann said… “ Evelyn, I love that coat; you need to give that to me…”  Budd said… “Ok Ann, that’s no problem… here you go!”  In 50 below degrees weather, Budd took the coat off her back and gave it to cousin Ann. To date, Cousin Ann shares the story behind the “ I’ll Give You The Coat Off My Back”.  I knew that’s the legacy she (Budd) left behind to my mom, Uncle Chad ( Rachad), and I.

So, having the same desires, passion, and  zeal  as  my mom and grandma was a must-have for me. Here I am today, second time gem being featured in your magazine “SC Voyager” oozing my way as the next Fashionista
