We had the good fortune of connecting with Winnifred Tataw and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Winnifred, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting Win’s Books emerged from my lifelong passion for storytelling and the written word. From a young age, I was captivated by the power of stories to inspire, educate, and connect people from diverse backgrounds. Over the last five years, I have continued this passion by honing my writing skills and expanding my knowledge of the publishing industry. I realized that I wanted to create a platform where I could not only share my own stories but also help other writers bring their visions to life. Starting Win’s Books, I envisioned a multifaceted approach providing authors with the tools and resources needed to succeed in today’s competitive market. By offering services such as manuscript editing, cover design, marketing strategy, and distribution support, Win’s Books aims to empower writers at every stage of their journey. Launching Win’s Books has been a leap of faith and a willingness to embrace uncertainty. However, my passion for storytelling and my commitment to supporting fellow writers have driven this venture!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Win’s Books is not just a marketing and publishing company; it’s a community for storytellers! We pride ourselves on being a nurturing platform for writers who wish to share their narratives with the world. Our mission is to provide a comprehensive suite of services that empower authors, from manuscript editing to creative marketing strategies. What sets us apart is our personalized approach and commitment to inclusivity. We believe that every voice deserves to be heard, and we strive to amplify diverse perspectives through our publishing efforts. Seeing our authors’ works reach new audiences and receive recognition has been incredibly rewarding. We are also excited about our upcoming digital platform expansion, which will provide even more resources and opportunities for writers to hone their craft and connect with readers. Building strong, authentic relationships with our authors and bookish partners has been crucial. I’ve also realized the power of innovation in storytelling, embracing new technologies and platforms to reach wider audiences. These lessons continue to guide us as we grow and evolve!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were in Charleston, SC, you bet I’d be ready to show them what makes CHS great. First stop? We’d kick things off with a morning wander down King Street. You’ve got art galleries tucked between quirky boutiques, each a chapter in Charleston’s creative narrative. One of my absolute favorite spots is the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art!
Now, when hunger strikes—and it will, because let’s be honest, all this exploring works up quite the appetite—we’d head over to Poogan’s Porch. Then we’d head to the Battery, where the sea breeze carries whispers of the past. It’s a perfect spot to reflect on the day, marveling at the beauty around us. Of course, no day in Charleston would be complete without a visit to one of our indie bookstores!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
