We had the good fortune of connecting with Victoria Bowen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Victoria, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is absolutely to be open — open to opportunities, connections, and new experiences. I feel that I can learn something from every person I meet, and you never know what door will open when you are present and available to what’s coming next for you.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
By day, I am a mental health therapist serving pregnant and postpartum women. After such heavy work, I found myself needing a social and creative outlet, and paired that with my love of dining out and keeping up with the restaurant scene locally and places I’m traveling to. And voila – @HungryCharleston was born! I love that there is zero pressure and I get to post on my own schedule, while helping local businesses!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I always recommend 3 places to visitors:
– 167 Raw, because it’s iconic
– Home Team or Lewis BBQ
– Miller’s All Day for Brunch

Being on Johns Island, I typically take my out of town guests for a burrito & a marg at Minero or late night beer at Tattooed Moose.

Of course, we’ll check out Folly and Sullivan’s, as well as Shem Creek! The Belmont is my favorite cocktail bar downtown. You really can’t go wrong.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d attribute my success to the wonderful community right here in Charleston. There is no guidebook around creating in our city, and I typically turn to my friends for advice, feedback or suggestions. Always happy to share opportunities to them as well! Special shoutouts to Jess with @chowingdowncharleston & Leah with @leetle_leaah !
