We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiffany, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
To create unique hues with an unmatched cruelty-free formula that meet the aesthetic standard for ALL individuals enthralled with esthetics. I am a reformed, non-violent convicted felon, college graduate who had a tumultuous journey via dead-end jobs finding her niche. With that being said, entrepreneurship changed my life, my mindset and my financial forecast. I started my cosmetic brand(s) due to my passion for uncommon hues through lipstick. And because I am intrinsically selfless; I wanted to share my passion with the world.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My innovation stems from my desire to change the proverbial beauty standard. I was born in the 70’s where red lipsticks ruled the runway and all areas of aesthetics.. I am a tomboy, my favorite color is blue, so as I began to learn more about myself; I realized that I possess cool undertones. Therefore, I was never inclined to wear red lip wear. Blue and green hues really stood out on my skin tone.. And after years of searching for blue and green lipsticks, to no avail, I got creative by infusing blue and green eyeliners on my lips; in which I topped off with clear lip gloss. I didn’t even know what “liquid matte lipsticks” were during those days.. Fast forward to 2015, with the influence of serial entrepreneur Keyshia Ka’oirs lip line; I began Dynah-Sty Lip Whips, which is a portmanteau comprised of my only daughter Dynah’s name. Dynah is what I like to call, “A Jill of all trades”. She had expert knowledge of the color wheel; to the capacity that, she was the genius behind our unique hues. We created over 75 different hues, by mixing multiple hues together. In addition, our formula was comprised of essential oils only; which made our customer base fanatics. In the infancy of Dynah-Sty Lip Whips success, evil lurked in the shadows and someone attempted to sabotage our business, because my headquarters was my kitchen.. Sadly, the attempts to obliterate our business worked and thwarted our sales drastically. Relentlessness yields resilience, so in 2019 Phresh Paint Beauty, LLC. was born, A cosmetic brand designed to ignite the artist in EVERYONE. The only difference this go round, I out-sourced with a manufacturer who could replicate my formula and produce my products faster than me; with universally accepted packaging..
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Isle of Palms and Sullivan’s Island, those are my two favorite beaches in the LowCountry. I also love to visit FreshFields on Kiawah Island.. As far as restaurants, I love Hannibal’s Kitchen downtown and every location of Page’s Okra & Grill. I love seafood as well, and there are a plethora of seafood locations to savor the shellfish moments, King Claw, Carolina Seafood, Happy Crab just to name a few.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Karen Williamson, owner of Street Chic, whom I affectionately refer to as B.B. which stands for “Business Bestie”. We actually refer to each other as Business Besties. More importantly, Karen is also the liaison for my recognition in this editorial; and I am vehemently grateful. In addition to shouting out Karen Williamson, I must shout-out my four beautiful children Kyrice, Christian, Dana & Dynah, as well as my precocious grandson, Reign. And lastly, EVERY person that has promoted my brand, bought from my brand, and referred my brand, I refer to them all as “phresh painters” and I am forever indebted!!!
