We had the good fortune of connecting with Tierra Ravenell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tierra, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Work life balance is maintaining a healthy relationship between work and your personal life. Over time this has changed for me because I simply stop putting work before my personal life. It was starting to cost me my mental health because at first all I did was WORK, WORK, WORK. When starting a business it is like birthing a baby, so I wanted to literally give it my all. I remember nights I couldn’t even sleep because I was up doing work or I had so much on my mind about it I couldn’t sleep. That is very unhealthy and I had to put a stop to it immediately. I eventually found a way to have a healthy balance between my work and personal life. I started doing little things like prioritizing different tasks I needed to accomplish and dedicating specific time in my day that I would do work related things. I also started to do more self care things for myself to help decompress from work. I also invested in a business phone so when i’m done with work I could cut that phone off and be done with it. Overall, I think this was a good choice for me and now I have more of a control over both where i’m not feeling overwhelmed or stressed.

What should our readers know about your business?
I’m a skincare expert who provides beautification services to clients to improve the look and feel of their skin. I specialize in full body waxing, vajacials, and lash and brow services. I take pride in my ability to make my clients feel good about themselves with proper skin care treatments and at home care. That’s what sets me apart from others, I really take time in getting to know my clients and their skin to properly educate them on how to maintain their services in the long run. I also take pride in my work and making sure I pay close attention to details. I got this far today from never giving up, pushing myself, learning new things to help better myself, and just being open minded/able to take criticism. It was not easy, but I will say it was worth it. I overcame challenges by just keeping myself focused on the bigger picture and reminding myself that even small successes meant a lot. What I want the world to know about my brand is just to remember me and it. My small business WILL be a BIG business one day!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting the area and I wanted to show them a good time I would definitely show them the time of their life! I would probably start off with going to a nice brunch place like Page’s Okra Grill in Mount Pleasant, SC. Then I would probably go and get us massages from any local massage place and pedicures from Exquisite Nails & Spa in Summerville, SC. Depending on the weather, we could always go downtown and shop/eat. While downtown we could visit the Escape Room and the new African American Museum. My favorite place to eat downtown is Hall’s Chophouse. If we weren’t in the mood for Hall’s there’s also a nice dinner cruise through Spiritline Cruises that is fun and has decent food. Then we could end the night at a nice lounge. More exciting places to check out in Charleston, SC:
Topgolf – North Charleston
Bad Daddy’s – Summerville, SC (Nexton)
Bowling – Stars & Strikes (Summerville, SC)
Axe Throwing
Wine & Paint

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely want to shout out MY MOM! She is my biggest supporter, I look up to her! My mom always pushes me to be the best me I can be and she literally is there every step of the way. Rather it be financially, encouragement, giving references, advice, whatever it is I need she’s always just a phone call away. I don’t know where i’d be today without her for sure. I changed my mind a few times in my younger days when it came to deciding what I really wanted to do and my mother never made me feel bad about it. She would always just say “okay what can I do to help you accomplish X,Y,Z” The only thing she always told me was don’t let her money go to waste, whatever it was I wanted to do that she was investing in just make sure I made the money back. I really appreciate my mom for never leaving my side.
