We had the good fortune of connecting with Tia Ward and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tia, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I believe that embracing risks is essential for success in business. Taking risks is the best way to discover new opportunities and understand what truly aligns with your vision. In many ways, risk-taking is integral to creativity and innovation, especially for artists. Without stepping outside of our comfort zones, we limit our potential for growth and discovery.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My journey in photography started with street photography, where I found joy in capturing everyday moments. Over time, I shifted my focus to weddings and portraits, and that’s where I’ve truly found my niche. What sets my work apart is how I blend candid, documentary-style shots with beautifully posed portraits, allowing me to tell a genuine story on one of the most important days of people’s lives.
I’m most proud of the connections I build with my clients. Each couple has a unique story, and I love capturing those intimate moments that reflect their personality. After 14 years in photography and 5 years as a full-time professional, I’ve faced my share of challenges. The journey to getting here hasn’t always been easy, especially when it came to navigating the business aspect. Luckily, my sister Terran stepped in to share her knowledge, helping me understand how to run a successful photography business.
Through these experiences, I’ve learned the importance of resilience and staying true to my artistic vision. I want the world to know that my passion for photography drives everything I do. Each image I create is not just a photograph; it’s a piece of someone’s story, and I feel fortunate to be part of that narrative.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spots in the city are Wall Street, River Arts District
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my daddy! He passed away in 2020.
He always believed fully in my creative vision, even when I didn’t!
