We had the good fortune of connecting with Tez Dixon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tez, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think taking risks is a blessing and a curse. I’ve taken risks as far as self funding multiple films, but the outcome and feedback from the audience is only motivating me to keep going.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being a film director is not easy, nor was it easy to get here. Rejection is something I had to overcome. I started doing my own thing such as writing, directing, and producing my own projects. At the end of the day it’s all well worth it. I take my craft serious and I’m always ready for the next step.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spot in the city would probably be the movie theater. I don’t really hang out much. For the most part, I stay to myself. However, if I happen to hang out then a movie theater is the spot to do so. Being in the presence of anything cinema related keeps my game sharp.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A few people I think deserves recognition besides myself would be my stepbrother, Trey Wardlaw and a couple of good friends of mine, Matt D. Chapman, Lily Beauchard, Stephanie Falciano, and Jerald Tyeks Tindal. Their support and involvement in my films are top notch.
