We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taylor, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I love to work. I knew I couldn’t be a Stay at Home Mom although I am in awe of how hard they work and how much they juggle. I worked in corporate America for about 10 years before my daughter was born. After she was born and I went back to my job from maternity leave, I felt the calling to do design instead of work in my very safe but very boring cubicle job. If I was going to continue to work, I needed to absolutely love my job.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I pride myself on designs that are beautiful but durable. I want families to truly live in the spaces I create for them. I try to really get into the mind of my client to learn their style then elevate it by pushing them a tiny bit on the schemes and designs I present to them. This produces a result that truly reflects their unique personality and taste on an elevated level.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Downtown Greenville is amazing. I love to walk the Swamp Rabbit Trail through Cleveland Park into Falls Park to see the falls and check out what’s happening, whether it be one of a zillion festivals or the Farmers Market on Saturday mornings. I also love the arts district with its amazing locally owned coffee shops, bakeries and art galleries. Since I am a lover of all things home, I would drive them around a few neighborhoods- Hampton-Pinckney, North Main, Alta Vista and Green Valley so we could ooh and ahh over the gorgeous old homes. For shopping, I’d take them to Cottage Grove Vintage, The Rock House Antiques and Artifacts. You can’t beat a vintage and antiques store with chickens roaming around in the back!

As far as dining, my husband and I LOVE Jones Oyster Co downtown and go there any chance we get. Pomegranate is another long time favorite of ours.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Jeanie Gilmer is an amazing local interior designer. We had lunch and I asked her a million questions. She gave me the good, bad and ugly of the business, and also a few resources to help me get started. I don’t know how I would have done it without her. Since then, I have been lucky enough to become great friends with 4 other interior designers with similar years of experience. We constantly share strategies, sources, ideas and give each other encouragement when needed. They are a true godsend.
