Meet Stephanie Selby | Portrait Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie Selby and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stephanie, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
By the time I started my business, I had been obsessively engaged in photography for almost a decade, but never realized it could be a way to make a living for myself and my family. Before I pursued photography full-time, I was in a career that was meaningful, but left me feeling drained and routinely frustrated. I decided to start my business in 2019 after much encouragement from friends and family. There was also a particular colleague that kept cheering me on to make the leap into expanding my business and making photography my professional focus. I never imagined any of this was possible for me. It’s been a lot of hard work, but I am so grateful to be living a dream I didn’t know I had!

What should our readers know about your business?
Stephanie Selby Photography offers luxury portraits for the modern woman and her family. The services I offer were designed with the awareness that my clients are busy people with a successful career or fully scheduled family life or both! I know how valuable time is and that work and family life requires all our attention. Most modern women don’t have time to plan all of the details of a photoshoot. I know that, because I am also a busy parent and career woman! The other consideration that has helped me design the experiences we offer is the simple fact that portraits of any kind can often be stressful. Whether it’s headshots, maternity, family, portraits for your high school senior, or any combination of those, getting all the details together can be tough. From wardrobe styling to hair & makeup, we plan ALL the details for you! We can even design and install your gallery wall with the finished product.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In my opinion, there is nowhere more beautiful than Charleston. This city is an endless source of inspiration for me and my work. I would recommend getting outside to see the landscape and visiting many of the places where I photograph my clients! Rainbow Row and Hampton Park are two MUST see spots downtown and no trip to the low country would be complete without visiting Charleston’s beaches. Each beach town along the coast has its own vibe from Kiawah all the way up to Isle of Palms–these are great places to explore, eat, and hang out, especially for families!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My friends and family were a huge factor in my decision to start my own business as a luxury portrait photographer. I’ve also been extremely fortunate to have supportive colleagues and mentors along the way and incredible clients who inspire me with their own stories and successes! Finally, I have to thank my children for being an endless source of love and inspiration for my work.
