We had the good fortune of connecting with Sok Hwee Tay and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sok Hwee, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started my business with the vision of sharing and teaching what I have learned and what have helped me in my healing journey with the hopes of empowering others to realize their own inner power and strength to do the same for themselves.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Reiki teacher, sound practitioner and board certified music therapist. I work part time at a local hospice as a music therapist and has a business that is focused on energy healing. I combine my passion and knowledge of Reiki, Sound, Music and breathwork in my sessions to help individuals reach a deeper state of relaxation which then enables them to tap into their inner and higher self for healing. I strive to create a safe space for all who come to see me and my goal is to help them see the potential that have always been within them. I also run sound meditation events with specific themes to encourage connection with self and others through guided meditation, sound and sacred songs.

Building a business requires patience, passion, commitment and continued strive for growth within. I started three years ago with a vision and I kept working hard towards that vision. There will always be people who have opinions about what you are supposed to do and my advice is to always stay true to yourself. Keep a positive mindset and do not be discouraged when things are not going well. Take it as a lesson and an opportunity for growth.

Two things that have really helped me in my personal and business life is to live in a state of gratitude and to never stop learning. I have been very fortunate to be surrounded by supportive friends, mentors and teachers and they continue to help me expand what I offer to the world. In December, 2023, I was able to further my Reiki training in Kyoto with a Japanese Reiki master and in 2024 I will further my learning in Shamanic Breathwork to expand my knowledge so I can continue to serve my clients and students in more expansive ways.

I would like to leave you with a practice that have helped me tremendously through the years. It is a gratitude practice and I encourage you to do this continuously for 21 days if possible. When you wake up in the morning, find one thing to be grateful for. You will find that as you continue in this practice that it will become easier and easier to find gratitude in your every day life.

Much love and light,
Sok Hwee

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to Hitchcock Park and Hopeland Gardens in Aiken, SC

For food, we would take a trip to Columbia for Korean and Chinese food at Gang Nam, Kpot and Sun Ming

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There have been so many people in my life that have been pivotal in my journey. For the sake of this article, I am going to dedicate my gratitude to Dana Preshous who led me onto a path of self belief and Reiki both of which have greatly transformed my life. There have been many others after who continues to be an important role in my growth and journey.
