We had the good fortune of connecting with Reyanne Wilkie and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Reyanne, looking back, what do you think was the most difficult decision you’ve had to make?
It’s always difficult to decide when to be selfish and to not feel guilt when you are. The most difficult decision I have ever had to make, was choosing myself and choosing to put my needs and self worth before anything else. With this my confidence has grown which has relayed into my work and interpersonal relationships. While it is uncomfortable to grow by yourself, the reward is worth all you that you lost.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I began doing art as a child. Painting and sculpture has always been a passion of mine. I went to the university of North Carolina at Greensboro, where I graduated with a bachelors degree in art. While being there I learned so many skills that translate into my work today. I began doing makeup on others in 2014, while I was still in highschool. I was the “goto makeup girl” for prom and school dances! From there I began to do weddings and events on the side to make a few extra bucks and the passion just grew! Since then I have taken many courses on refining my makeup skills and networked with some of the best makeup artists and creatives in the industry. All of these things have lead me to where I am today, getting to work with stunning brides and their amazing bridal parties, as well as events!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
They have to go to soda city market on Saturday for sure! I’ve only lived in Columbia, SC for about 3 years now. My favorite thing to do is go the market. I also love to line dance, so I tell anyone and everyone about my favorite “hole in the wall” Carolina Western Pub. Thursday nights they offer line dancing and it is the best time, every time! You can always find me there. Obviously you need to eat as well! My go to restaurants are Hanabi Hibachi and Sushi off of main st, Cocos and Beer Mexican restaurant and Kaminsky’s dessert cafe!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to thank my dad for giving me the artistic avenue as a child and allowing me to express myself through makeup and art. My father was an airbrush and tattoo artist when I was growing up. He often would airbrush me as different fictional characters, like avatar. He also ran a face painting booth and I was enamored by the way he painted faces. I think this is what sparked my interest in creative works with makeup and quickly evolved into full glam style makeup!
