We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebecca Rosales Castillo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rebecca, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’ve always loved to talk and talking to people. Sharing information about music,, movies and life. I think this is why my Dad always thought II’d be good in broadcasting. He was right. I love it. I’ve always been creative and artistic. I love to dance, write and create things that moves the audience and touches their heart.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a lover of all things creative. To get to do what I do everyday, editing, writing, my radio show, interview show and podcast is incredibly fulfilling. There is nowhere I’d rather be than in this career. Sometimes it’s hard because you’re putting yourself out there and you’re always striving to have exceptional content. What I find hard is that your own people are not eager to support you. However, you’re putting out content for everyone and there is an audience watching and listening. They are the faceless supporters that keep you going. It’s a discovery that really matters. Someone out there appreciates what you do and how you’re doing it. The ones who hate is like gasoline to my engine or wind in my sails. They motivate me to keep going.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my bestie and I were going to hang out in South Carolina, particularly in Pawley’s Island, my stomping grounds, I’d take her to one of the most popular hang out which is Boardwalk on the Beach. We’d go on a bike ride to have lunch in Murrels Inlet. Enjoy a day in Huntington State Park. At night go have dinner and listen to live music at the PIT. And of course enjoy the beaches of North Myrtle and Pawley’s Island.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My father, Mauricio Rosales. He’s a Latin radio broadcasting pioneer. He’s been a radio personality for over fifty years.. He started in El Salvador as a radio DJ and moved his way up to station programmer. He left to come to the United States where he found a lack of Latin radio talent and was offered a job on one of the first Spanish language radios in the Washington Metropolitan area. There he surged as a popular voice who made a transition into television as one of the first anchors of a local newscast. He then worked at Univision Washington until his retirement in 2008. In 2010, he came back with his own internet radio called Radio Exitos Inolvidables and in 2021, joined forces with me to relaunch it. He’s my guide, my teacher and mentor. He’s my executive producer on my shows and in life. I admire him for not juste being a supportive father but for being an excellent professional. He’s a master of his work. I owe my career to his teachings and unwavering support.
