We had the good fortune of connecting with Racheal Bagwell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Racheal, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I do not generally think of myself as a risk taker, but in order to be a successful business owner I have to be willing to take risks. In 2018 I began my career as an entry level interior designer for a small firm in Seneca, SC. After working hard and building relationships for 6 years, I realized I was too comfortable with where I was with my career. Being too comfortable will halt personal growth. Ultimately I was not happy, so I began to pray and ask God to open up new doors. He then pushed me to take a risk and go out on my own in January 2024. By this point, I had just found out I was pregnant with our second child. How on Earth was I to start a new business and become a new mom again all at the same time?? God’s timing is truly perfect. Now that I am in complete control of my schedule and my income, I am now able to spend time with my family more than ever before while also enjoying my new career as a business owner and lead interior designer. Taking the risk of going out on my own has given my family more peace and joy than we have ever had before, and we are so excited to continue that by welcoming in our new family addition come August 2024.
What should our readers know about your business?
My business is an interior design firm that specializes in creating design solutions that reflect function, wellness, and the ultimate place to live, work, and worship. I work on new construction and remodel projects by providing services such as product and material selections, CAD Drawings, and project management.
I am the most excited about tackling the journey of being a new business owner and second time new mom come August 2024.
I graduated from Anderson University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Interior Design in 2018. From there I went right on into the work force as an entry level interior designer for a small residential firm in Seneca, SC. Over the last six years I worked my way up to lead designer of that firm. In January 2024 I decided to go out on my own and start my interior design business where I could have the flexibility to practice my own design philosophies. Starting my own business was not easy. It was definitely a financial risk to my family. But I LOVE what I do so I am determined to see my business not only succeed, but THRIVE.
I am still very new to being a business owner, but I have definitely learned to trust myself, the support of my family, and ultimately God.
I want the world to know that my story is a testimony of God’s goodness. He has not only blessed me with the skills to do what I love to do, but also with the tools I need to create a successful business: self-confidence and my family’s positive support.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I LOVE my city. Greenville, SC is a great place for anyone. If my friend were visiting, the first thing we would do is grab a cup of iced coffee from Augusta 20. From there we would walk through downtown to Falls Park where we would soak in the beauty of the natural falls. From falls park we would continue walking to Unity Park where we would enjoy a nice lunch at The Commons. From there, our kids would enjoy playing on the green turfed playground while we connect with other parents enjoying the park. For dinner, we would wine and dine at Tsunami Restaurant, who in my opinion, has the best sushi in town.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A HUGE shoutout goes to my husband for always pushing me to be the best person I can be and for seeing my full potential even before I ever could.
