We had the good fortune of connecting with Portia “that’s So Portia” and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Portia, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
For starters, I have a degree in Journalism and Mass Communications, so by nature I am a media girl. Professionally, I have done various media-related work across agencies and publishers for brands, such as General Motors and Longhorn Steakhouse. In my personal time, I used to watch YouTube content ranging from lifestyle, fashion, hair & reality tv and one day I thought “I could do this.” Once I had that thought, that is when “That’s So Portia” was birthed in April 2020. I created my channel under the tagline “Lifestyle & More” because I wanted to feature a variety of content on my channel rather than putting myself in a box with one topic, so viewers of “That’s So Portia” can enjoy travel, fashion, lifestyle, and television commentary on my YouTube channel.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being a content creator has had its highs and lows, but it is a journey that I am going to continue. The biggest challenge I would say would be growing my following. I am striving for more followers across my social media pages along with growing my subscribers on YouTube. Despite not having the biggest following, brands have noticed me and have reached out for collaboration. Being noticed by brands excites me to keep going because I take it as a sign that I am on the right path and more opportunities will come.

I take pride in creating content that I enjoy and that resonates with me. My YouTube channel, “That’s So Portia,” is all about “Lifestyle & More,” so I want my viewers to be entertained and informed with the content I produce. After watching my content, I want my online community to walk away feeling that they know more about the hottest travel destinations, have new fashion ideas, know of different activities to do with family and friends, and more.

Overall, I am proud that I started and have kept going as a creator.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If someone is visiting the Columbia, South Carolina area, I would recommend checking out entertainment events at The Comedy House, The Township Auditorium or The Colonial Life arena. For nightlife, I would recommend Room Service Bistro & Lounge or Space Lounge. For activities, I would recommend Good Vibes Paint and Sip. If someone is looking for great food, I would suggest they add Hall’s Chophouse, Ruby Sunshine, Sato’s Japanese Restaurant, or The Grand on Main to their itinerary.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The first shout out goes to Dr. Precious Biggom, owner of It’s a Nursing Thing. Precious has been my biggest supporter throughout my content creator journey. From sharing content ideas to investing in equipment, Dr. Biggom has been so instrumental in the growth of my YouTube channel, and I could not thank her enough. Also, shout out to my family and friends who has genuinely supported me as a content creator – through the views, likes, and shares. Lastly, I would like to thank all the “strangers” within my social media network. I am grateful for my online community that has shown so much support to “That’s So Portia.” My online community matters so much, and I am glad that I can deliver content to them that they find entertaining and informative.
