We had the good fortune of connecting with Pandora Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pandora, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
The most difficult decision I ever had to make was the decision to quit my full time 6 figure position to focus on being a full time entrepreneur.
What should our readers know about your business?
Outter Wear is a women’s clothing boutique that offers everyday wear for the working, still love to have fun, and outgoing women of today. We catered to petite, regular and plus (who I refer to as curvy) ladies. I started my business in my home. to the trunk of the car then to now a storefront. The decision to move from running my business out of my home to a storefront was one the hardest I ever had to make. The excitement surely masked the reality of the overhead cost of running a storefront, but here I am 5 years later in the same location. Let me tell you, it has not been easy. Working a full time job and running a business is overwhelming. Being 100% responsible for everything to advertising. marketing, stylist, employee, owner, model, and everything else is very challenging. Some days I feel like giving up, but when I look at how far I came and accomplished I feel I would be giving up when I’m almost close to victory. I love fashion, I love putting looks together. I love seeing the smile on my customers face when they are happy with their looks and/or pieces. I love the relationships that I have built with my customers. I love our conversations outside of fashion. Because of all of this, I believe that sets me apart from bigger companies. I may not beat them with prices, but I definitely beat them with the personal relationship I give. I have learned to be authentic, truthful and honest, You will build and find your tribe that will rock with you until the end. Trust yourself, trust in yourself and everything that is for you will follow.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being from the small town of Sumter, I would have them stay at our local downtown hotel, Hyatt Place, where it would be easy to walk and visit some of the spots and tasty foods. We would visit a few newly established popular spots with one being Sumter Original Brewery, where we could sit at the rooftop and enjoy the scenery and drinks. Another newly establishment with a wonderful decorative scenery is El Paso Tacos and Tequila. The food is great, but from the local talks the drinks are the main attraction. Another newly establishment which is my favorite is Pho Thai. The artwork done by the owner’s daughter is just amazing! You cannot come down south and not get a taste of the good ole southern fried chicken and barbeque. We would definitely get a chance to lick our fingers at the southern food restaurant, The Jackson’s and a taste of barbeque from the BBQ Hut. Hey with all of this I know a gym day is needed so we would visit my favorite spot, Johnson Bootcamp. Of course I would take them for a shopping day at my boutique, Outter Wear, where a lot of my shoppers enjoy their dressing room mini fashion show experience. As a person who is craving the enjoyment of nature, we would take a walk and end with a picnic at one of my spring, summertime spots, Swan Lake.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shoutout my parents and kids without their support it wouldn’t be possible for me to continue my business, My mother stepped in and ran my business while I was still working my full time position in the corporate world. My oldest have also stepped in and ran my business when my mother couldn’t. My kids motivates me to not give up because one day I want them to say, if mama did it we can do it as well.
