We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Holcomb and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Nicole – Starting my own venture is something I have been contemplating for a long time. I recently had the pleasure of attending a 6-month Authentic Leadership program run through Queens University that forced me to take a hard look at what truly drives and inspires me. During this soul-searching course I started future casting what a dream career would be for me. I spoke with my longtime friend Richelle and asked her if she would be willing to start a new venture with me as we have similar visions and creative flair. She was all in! Having that support and encouragement from her really propelled this business into high gear. The support of my husband, business partner, family and lots of praying led me to take the leap of faith to leave my almost 20-year career in retail banking and start Love, Evermore Events with Richelle.

Richelle- Nicole and I have known each other for over 15 years, during which time we’ve hosted countless birthday parties, family events, and have even coordinated weddings together. We’ve often been told that event planning is a business we should pursue, which led to the beginning of Love, Evermore Events. Both of us are naturally creative and passionate about hosting parties and bringing others’ dreams to life. Unfortunately, our “corporate” jobs didn’t provide much room for these passions. Starting our own business allowed us to fully embrace our creativity and dedication to making memorable events for others.

What should our readers know about your business?
We are a full-service event planning company that helps both individuals and businesses with all types of events. From weddings to corporate events, we do it all. What sets us apart is our level of service, attention to the smallest details and true passion. We are booking limited events so that we can give each client our undivided attention. We officially started taking on clients April 1st and we have booked 7 events thus far which we are super pleased. Because we are new at this, we have many learning opportunities ahead of us and we are both ready to take on the challenge. In my past career I was in customer service as well as a management role, so I feel like those skills will directly corelate to event planning. Keeping the customer pleased by constant communication, listening and understanding their needs and vision and creating a solid plan to execute that vision will be our foundation for growing this business.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First, I would understand my audience. Each friend of mine has different likes and taste. For example, if it was a friend that loved the buzz of the busy city, I would take them to Uptown on the train so they can really see the landscape and different areas of Charlotte. We would stop in SouthEnd for some light shopping, maybe Anthropology. Then we would hit Cordial for a fun cocktail. Then we could walk around Uptown and check out Romare Bearden Park. I would then end the night at Fahrenheit with great food and a killer view.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband has always been my biggest supporter. When I brought to him the idea of opening an event planning business, he gave me encouragement and his full support. Also, my friends, family, and business partner Richelle have all been such an amazing support system through this transition. Lastly, I met and became friends with some amazing female entrepreneurs along the way that have become a great source of inspiration and encouragement for me.
