We had the good fortune of connecting with Matthew Cote and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matthew, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Esmé Bianco put it best when she said “You can’t get anywhere in life without taking risks”. You have to take risks to advance in life and your career. If you are always playing it safe chances are you are going to stay exactly where you are and never truly reach your full potential. In both my life and my career reach risk that I have taken with positive or negative outcomes has led to where I am today.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Not being afraid to take risks and start over would probably be one of the things that separates myself from others. My professional career started in the health and fitness industry. That was a risk in itself because I didn’t personally know anyone that had made a career in that industry and it was something my family didn’t know much about at the time. But, it paid off and started me on an 11 year career with my previous company. During my time there I was taking risks all the time. I moved sight unseen four different times to different states and facilities. The last being during the covid pandemic to Boston to open up a brand new facility. Each move and each risk I just focused on the outcome. What the end goal was each time and all the time and effort went into that. After ending that career moved into the medical sales world when starting with AMSCO Medical. Completely new industry and took the risk to move again to another state and start the expansion. The brand and story I want to leave behind is someone that isn’t afraid to start over and to build from the ground up.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living in Clemson, SC puts me right in the middle of a lot of things to do. First and foremost if someone is visiting during football season we are going to see a Clemson Football game. This is an experience like none other. The energy and environment is out of this world. From there we are going to stay downtown Clemson and just experience all the different bars and the people that come to see the games. Outside of football there are many hiking trails and waterfalls to go experience. We would take our time enjoying the nature that is around us. Something that has been bursting into the area has been the live music. In Greenville, SC you have the Blindhorse Saloon and the Bon Secours Arena. Drive a little further north into Spartanburg and you have Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium. There is always someone in the area preforming to see.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It’s hard to narrow down to a single person to dedicate a shoutout too. Over the years there are multiple people, places, and events that help create your story and success along the way. However I can start with narrowing it down to a couple. First the person that helped me improve on my communication and strategic planning is Kari Strout. She was my General Manager at my previous company. She taught me though hard lessons how to take the skillset I naturally have and tighten it up to be able to take me even further in life and business. Next up would be Sanjay Shah CEO and Owner of AMSCO Medical. He took a risk on my by allowing me to go off on my own to expand his business into the Southeast market and out of the Midwest market we have been in for over 25 years. Along with Sanjay from AMSCO I have to shoutout Marcos Herrera the VP of Business Development & Marketing at AMSCO as well. Marcos has been my go to person in office to help with the development of this Southeast territory.
