We had the good fortune of connecting with MariaNoël Polk and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi MariaNoël, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I kind of started my business on accident. I went to cosmetology school and thought I was going to only work on skin. After someone close to me got cancer, and I helped to teach them how to draw their eyebrows on. I decided that Makeup was where I needed to be. It felt amazing to give a woman back part of what cancer took from her.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It has not been an easy road and there has been a lot of sacrifice from my entire family. My parents watch my girls on the weekend when my husband and I work. My husband’s career has come second to mine so I could to continue to grow my company, but it has all been worth it. My daughters know that mom is a bad ass business owner, who always puts them first and sometimes that means having to work, but it also means being able to takeoff for their most important moments and that it’s possible because of the career path I have chosen.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend visiting from out of town, I would, of course take them to Palmetto Bluff so they could see all of the natural beauty that it has to offer. We would eat at the octagon and just walk around and view the grounds. We would also take a ride to Downtown Savannah, where we would stop by the JW Marriott check out the dinosaur and they’re amazing pizza restaurant. We would go into Hilton Head for brunch, cryo at restore hyper wellness and drive around Sea Pines checking out gators and the beautiful golf courses.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would have to say that my inspirations would be Sonia Roselli and Vivian Baker. When I first started my career, I was a single mom who didn’t have much money and had a really hard time getting started. Both of these women encouraged me, sent me supplies so I had what it needed and were there for me whenever I was feeling really down. To this day, I can message them for words of encouragement and they’re always there. They are amazing entrepreneurs who have helped sooooo many in my community!
