We had the good fortune of connecting with Maria Fernanda Ramirez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maria Fernanda, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea of this project started out of a personal need, I had my first baby in 2021. I have always had this spirit of wanting to undertake something that I like and something that allows me to be myself. This was my best opportunity to do it since I was going to be able to take care of my baby and at the same time provide for my family.

I started thinking about something that I would like to do and something that I knew how to do, which is embroidery on clothing and other items. With the support of my partner I began to create the idea of my small business.I wrote down everything the way I wanted it to be. Something that fills me with great pride is knowing that I am Latina and that despite the difficulties encountered along the way as immigrants, we can move forward and see things positively. So I combined these two things: my wish for wanting to start something I like and my pride in being Latina.

I saw the opportunity to be able to enhance our culture through my small business and above all to be able to empower Latin women. I always rely on a phrase that Lupita Nyong’o said; “It doesn’t matter where you are from, your dreams are valid.”

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As I mentioned before, it fills me with great pride to be able to celebrate our culture, and to be able to bring a message of motivation to all Latina girls through my small business. I still know that there is a lot to continue learning, many mistakes to make, but with perseverance you can achieve your dreams. Nothing is easy, everything has its level of complexity, especially in this area where there is a lot of competition, there are many doing phenomenal work, but there is a space for everyone. It’s like a roller coaster, just as there are days that go by without having any order, there are days that God blesses you with many.

I would like to be able to reach more Latinos and make them feel identified, that they are not alone, that there is a great community that support them. Many times we can think that we do not belong to certain places, jobs, or sometimes we don’t feel worthy, when in reality we are capable of achieving anything.

I have been living in the United States for 5 years and on many occasions the language has been a barrier, however it has not been an impediment to pursuing my goals.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I really Like to try the cuisine of other countries, so we can start from there. I also love wine so going to a winery would be a great plan. I would normally go to the beach, but moving here has awakened my love for the mountains. I love to see how the seasons change. And being able to sing while I go for a ride is a good option.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank the Latino Community for the support and motivation, because without them this small business wouldn’t. be possible. Thanks for being a community of brave and hard working people. Thanks to all the girls who have supported me from day one, and if you are new you are very welcome. I also want to thank my family and friends who always motive me to continue giving my best.
