We had the good fortune of connecting with Lorrie Dixson Griggs and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lorrie, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind the success of Drifter Merch has been the relentless hustle. From attending countless events to get our name out there, to tirelessly networking and working to secure spots in stores, we’ve never stopped pushing forward. The commitment to this hard work has been crucial in building our brand’s reputation and growing our presence. It’s all about the grind and the dedication to making every opportunity count.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets Drifter Merch apart is the blend of passion for music and commitment to quality in every piece we create. We’re not just another merchandise company. We also offer music lovers, business owners, and other organizations a way to express their style and creativity through custom screen printing and embroidery. I’m most proud of how we’ve maintained this dedication to quality and creativity, even after facing significant challenges.
Getting to where I am today was far from easy after my late husband’s passing. I have tackled each obstacle head-on, from picking up his responsibilities, securing new event opportunities, expanding Drifter Merch’s network to balancing work and family life. The key was staying resilient and focusing on our Drifter Merch vision.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of perseverance and the value of a strong support system. Challenges are inevitable, but with determination and the right people by your side, you can overcome them and keep pushing forward.
However, Drifter Merch is more than just a brand as it’s a story of passion, resilience, and the power of dreams. The journey reflects my commitment to both the craft and community, and I’m excited to continue sharing the love for music and creativity through the designs.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
It’s great you asked, especially since we’re gearing up for the 4th Annual Drifter Fest: Bert Griggs Memorial Jam in September in Charleston! With so many visitors coming into town, we’re excited to showcase the best our city has to offer.
For the annual fest, I always encourage my guests to stay downtown to soak in the full Southern charm of the Holy City. Charleston is brimming with diverse restaurants such as Leon’s, 167 Raw and Home Team BBQ and lively bar concepts like The Commodore and Palace Hotel that cater to every taste. For those who love shopping, the city’s diverse boutiques such as Copper Penny, James Ascher and City Market are definite stops. History buffs will enjoy exploring our rich heritage through various history, culinary and ghost tours, and the beautiful waterfronts like on the battery. Plus, there’s several nearby beaches on Folly, Isle of Palms, Sullivans and Kiawah Islands that offer perfect spots to unwind. There’s truly something for everyone to enjoy while they’re here!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
While my late husband and I started Drifter Merch together and shared a dream for the company, his passing meant I had to carry on the vision alone. I couldn’t have done it without the incredible support of my boyfriend, Josh Moore. He plays a crucial role, whether helping me at events or taking care of my daughter while I’m out working. His unwavering support and dedication have been instrumental in keeping the company going and thriving. I’m deeply grateful for his help and for the way he’s stepped up to support both me and the Drifter Merch dream.
