We had the good fortune of connecting with Liz Corbett and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Liz, why did you pursue a creative career?
Creativity is not a talent, it is a gift. I wanted to put to use the gift that God gave me. Though it took me awhile to pursue a creative career, I always wanted to work in a career where I could express myself freely and creatively. Before making this decision, I thought I needed to work in other fields to be successful but I found myself feeling trapped no matter how much money I was making. I am finally at peace and more successful as a freelance writer, editor, and creative designer because of that.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a freelance writer, editor, and creative designer. I enjoy sharing stories and experiences, whether it is through writing or creating digital art. I am most proud of my ability to help others share their story through writing or creating digital art.
I worked in the medical field for over 20 years in various areas. Once I outgrew the positions I was working in, I started to feel trapped. That’s when I decided to go to school to pursue a degree in psychology in hopes of becoming a licensed professional counselor. While in school, I was working as an administrative technician. I enjoyed working as an administrative technician but I still felt trapped and like I was going in circles. I love helping others by caring for them but I realized it was time for a change. One day, I decided to follow my passion for being a writer and editor, I changed my degree studies to English with a concentration in creative writing. A few months later, I decided to quit my job working as an administrative technician. I started my business in June 2023. Now, I am able to help people through writing or creating something for them. This was two of the best decisions that I have made!
Becoming a new freelance business owner was not an easy decision to make and comes with many challenges. I am able to overcome the challenges by knowing that I am finally at peace doing something I enjoy doing while having the opportunity to still help others.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you are visiting the Hampton Roads Virginia area, I would recommend going to Chef’s Kitchen and Cocktails in Norfolk, Virginia. This quaint spot is full of art and plants. The food and drinks are a delicious work of art with superb service.
A few of my favorite places to go are the Chrysler Museum and the Venue on 35th in Norfolk, Virginia. The Chrysler Museum is free and open to the public with different art exhibits on display. They also showcase local artist. The Venue on 35th is an intimate spot that welcomes and showcases local talents in the creative arts community through many different events.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my family, friends, and customers who are always supporting my business and encouraging me. A special shoutout to my friend, Eva Sumner, for always nurturing me while challenging and encouraging me to do my best as a business owner. Thank you all!!
