Hi Lisa Jean, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting ‘ the BUZZ skin” involved a combination of factors and considerations:
Passion for Skincare and Outdoors: I have always had a genuine passion for skincare and a love for spending time outdoors. This passion likely fueled the idea of creating a product that addresses both of these interests, offering a unique solution that blends beauty and bug protection.
Identifying a Niche Market, I recognized a gap in the market for products that cater to individuals who enjoy outdoor activities but also prioritize skincare. This insight sparked the concept of BUZZ skin, positioning it as a distinctive brand that meets the specific needs of this niche audience. With innovation and problem-solving, my entrepreneurial spirit drove me to think creatively about how to combine bug protection with skincare in a way that hasn’t been done before. This innovative approach sets BUZZ skin apart from conventional skincare brands and provides a practical solution for those who seek both bug repellent and skincare benefits.
Commitment to Natural and Effective Formulas: I hold a strong belief in the power of natural ingredients and their effectiveness in skincare. This commitment to using natural elements influenced my product formulation, ensuring that BUZZ skin not only repels bugs but also nourishes and cares for the skin.
I had a desire to make a positive impact. I had a vision of creating a product that enhances the outdoor experience for people, allowing them to fully enjoy nature without the discomfort of bug bites or the need for multiple products. This desire to make a positive impact on your customers’ lives could be a driving force behind the creation of BUZZ skin. At the same time respecting and protecting the planet. We use natural ingredients, sustainable and recycled packing and with little waste. Our production is small batch to keep high levels of freshness, and reduced inventory upon demand. We produce and target locally.
Overall, my thought process involved a combination of personal passion, market observation, innovative thinking, and a commitment to providing a solution that benefits others.

I have a robust, 23-year career in the fashion industry. A graduate of the esteemed University of Wisconsin-Madison, I have a dual major in Textile Science and Business, which laid the foundation for my multifaceted approach to design and strategy.
My journey led me to the vibrant landscape of New York City, whereI honed my craft at the prestigious F.I.T. School of Design. It was there that I refined my artistic vision and solidified my place as a trailblazer in the industry.
My career ignited at Calvin Klein, where I made contributions to the iconic Calvin Klein Body Collection set a new standard in the industry, showcasing my ability to marry form and function seamlessly.
With a keen understanding of product development and an eye for design. I ensured that every project I undertake aligned effortlessly with organizational goals, infusing them with a meticulous attention to detail. I was blessed to work on major features that landmark campaigns and designs, including the celebrated COACH Heritage collections in 2000’s.
My collaborative spirit and knack for innovation have led to dynamic partnerships with luminaries such as Jennifer Lopez, Lauren Conrad, Vera Wang, Iris Apfel, Stephen Colbert, and other A-list figures. My work with esteemed brands like ELLE, Rihanna, and Marc Jacobs, Kennith Cole, and more further shaped my ability to spot trends and redefine industry standards.
I decided with my background I could create 2 companies, ‘WHO WHAT OUI’ a branding agency that fuses STRATEGY and STYLE as well as launching, ‘the BUZZ Skin’ my beauty brand that repels insects. My biggest challenge is balancing the growth of both companies. I have learned so much about customer, fashion and development over the years, and feel grateful I can produce a product like the BUZZ for all to enjoy. Utilizing my agency, its seamless for campaign shoots, social, and website.
I want the world to know that BUZZ skin is more than just a skincare brand – it’s a story of innovation, purpose, and a deep appreciation for the beauty of the outdoors.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some personal must-see spots in Charleston includes, walking around Downtown, specially the Gallery’s in Friday afternoon. AHit up lunch at 167 Raw, a seafood gem, offering fresh, locally sourced dishes in a cozy, charming atmosphere. A must-visit for seafood enthusiasts. Grab a drink at Bin 152, a wine and cheese bar with a delightful ambiance, perfect for winding down and savoring a selection of fine wines and artisanal cheeses.
Check out or stay at the Pinch Hotel, a boutique hotel known for its stylish design and personalized service, providing a comfortable and unique stay in Charleston.
Get Out on the Water, Charter a boat or join a guided tour to explore Charleston’s stunning waterways. It’s a fantastic way to soak in the coastal beauty. If you rent a car, visit Folly Beach known for its laid-back, surf town vibe, Folly Beach is great for beachcombing, water sports, and enjoying a more relaxed atmosphere.
If there is time check out Isle of Palms (IOP), Offering a different experience, IOP boasts pristine beaches, a variety of restaurants, and a family-friendly environment.
A secret gem and night life fav. Commodore: A vibrant bar known for its lively atmosphere, craft cocktails, and live music, making it a perfect spot for a night out in Charleston.
