We had the good fortune of connecting with Lilly Whitley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lilly, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Ever since I was young, I knew I wanted to become an entrepreneur. My dad started his own business from nothing and became very successful, which instilled in me a deep admiration for entrepreneurship. I execute at a very high level and pride myself on my efficiency, qualities I believe are essential for success in business. I want to run my own business not just to achieve financial independence, but to create something impactful that reflects my values and my life’s work. I understood that there would be many challenges when starting a business (navigating payroll, LLC’s, and more legalities) but I knew it was a challenge I wanted to accept. I started conceptualizing my business in my college apartment with a cardboard poster I bought from the dollar store. I cut out pictures from my Pinterest board, added paint chips from the local Lowes, and cultivated the vision for my business. This process helped me make my entrepreneurial dreams a reality.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business, HerHealth Nutrition, helps women get to the root cause of the symptoms they are experiencing through tailored nutrition interventions. I specialize in the GI-MAP test, which is a gut test that reveals the ‘bad guys’ or harmful bacteria that may be living in your gut. We use these results to develop a specific nutrition and supplement protocol to address the imbalance. I have never had a client’s GI-MAP test come back completely normal! Getting to the root cause is what sets us apart from other practitioners. By utilizing integrative health tests like the GI-MAP, we can address and solve the issues directly.

It has not been easy to reach the place where I am now. Initially, I had no one else working for HHN; it was just me. I truly overcame every obstacle by reminding myself, ‘If someone else can do this, so can I. Everything is figureoutable.’ The hours were (and still are) long, but my passion for helping women never wavers. I do this for the women who have maxed out their deductibles and exhausted their resources and wallets in search of answers. I hope HHN becomes the source of relief that helps you get to the root cause of your issues and live your best life!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
To start off, I would eat at Basic Kitchen. This place has the BEST beet margaritas and offers healthier options with high-quality ingredients that taste absolutely delicious. I would work out at Jibe, a fun rhythmic spin studio located in both downtown Charleston and Mt. Pleasant. After that, I would go for a long walk on Rainbow Row with a coffee from Harken in Charleston. My specific coffee order from there is an iced oat milk Miele-style latte (honey and cinnamon).

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to credit my father who has played a crucial role in my success as an entrepreneur. Observing his entrepreneurial journey since I was a child helped me realize that everything is “figureouttable” and achievable if I work hard enough.

Thank you,

Dad
