We had the good fortune of connecting with Liliana Maya and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Liliana, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Consistency and perseverance. These two elements have been key in helping me refine my talent and evolve my art over time!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am most proud of how far I have come since first starting to paint over 20 years ago. To know that, as a largely autodidactic artist, I have been recognized and featured among the many other talented artists in the area is a huge motivator for me, and I hope, also serves as encouragement to those that are fighting for their dreams. Moving forward I’d like to see my art hanging in more places across the Lowcountry. I believe continued appreciation, respect and support for the arts is imperative in communities, as it is such a powerful means of expression and incubator for beauty and opportunity.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would love to show them the beautiful beaches, parks and sunsets all around me. As you can see through my art, I am continuously inspired by the many offerings the Lowcountry has for a nature lover like myself.
From Sullivans Island to Summerville, and everywhere out and in-between, each area throughout South Carolina is filled with history and charm that is visible through the arts and music. For anyone coming to visit, I would encourage them to stop by the many galleries and restaurants for a one-of-a-kind art, music and culinary experience.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, I recognize God’s grace in everything I have been able to do: Without God I would not be where I am today. I’d like to give credit to my husband, Tito, who has been on this life journey with me as my partner and has watched my growth as an artist throughout the decades! I’d also like to give a shout out to my daughter, Camila, who works incessantly to refine my brand as an artist and showcase my work in front of different audiences. Last but certainly not least, I have so much gratitude for my family, friends and community, whose support and words of encouragement have helped keep my passion alive.
