We had the good fortune of connecting with LaVada D. Humphrey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LaVada D., is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
I do have a favorite quote… ” A man is literally what he thinks, his character being the complete sum of all his thoughts.”- James Allen

This quote speaks volumes! It is from the book ” As a Man Thinketh. It means our thoughts be it positive or negative shape our lives. I read somewhere the average person has up to 70 thousand thoughts per day and most of them are not good. Therefore, it is essential to manage your thoughts and reprogram all negative thinking especially fear.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am the Founder and CEO of PureRising Group, which is a Speaking and Organizational Development group. What sets us apart is our holistic approach dealing with the whole person. Our focus is not just on talent development, but what affects productivity, psychological safety, purpose and effective communication with leaders and individual contributors. Our core work is communication, with an emphasis on the human voice and how it intersects with every aspect of life and work. We choose to focus on the leaders voice/communication and employee voice as it is central to business, engagement and psychological safety, relationship and trust.

As a practitioner, I’ve learned language matters. What we’re most proud of is helping people understand the impact of their internal dialogue and their leadership voice is important.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I really like Charlotte, the Uptown area and Camp North End . There is a lot to do in the city and eateries. I personally like North Italia restaurant and if I’m looking for something quick Flower Child is good eating. There is so much to do so it just depends on the season, person or what’s the vibe for the day.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I love people and reading. I would like to shoutout a few people who have made an impact in my life. My husband John Humphrey, who believes I can accomplish anything. I also like to thank a few people who inspire, encourage, or trade wisdom in my life: Georgia Bryce -Hutchinson, Monica Belton, and Mayor Derrick Wood.
