We had the good fortune of connecting with latarsha fields and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi latarsha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind my business was to provide the best braid services I could at an affordable price. I want my clients to feel their best without digging too deep in there pockets.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started out braiding my own hair when I was 12 years old. My mother used to take me to this hair dresser and I never liked my hair afterwards. I would always go straight in the mirror to redo my hair from whatever style she had put in. From there my friends and classmates all were interested in getting their hair done the same way. So I started charging $20/$30 depending on the style. As I got older the work started getting better and I started making more money. The process has not been easy since the braid market and styles change every day. To stay ahead of all the different braid styles and techniques, I try to take a different class yearly and follow different stylist from all over the world on social media. Since I have learned that no one person is the same and that is why we can have more than one person in the same field. I want to be known for always taking my time with each client that sits in my chair. I want to be known for providing good customer service as well.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First I would invite them to stay at the moxy hotel downtown. That is one of my favorite hotels, they have a rooftop and have a band play most nights. My favorite restaurant is Henry’s on the market. The food is good and they have great bartenders and good drinks. The bartenders are considered mixologist as they take their time mixing the drinks to your liking. I would also take my friend to the commodore lounge. They have a different live band every night with a nice relaxing atmosphere.
