We had the good fortune of connecting with Lane and Noemia Poole and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lane and Noemia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We both always enjoyed doing various crafts. I, Lane, enjoy making small wood projects. My grandfather was a carpenter and my father has his personal wood/metal shop. I started buying wood working machines, the first being a table saw. Shortly after my wife and I were married, she started doing home crafts such as shower bonnets and newspaper baskets. We talked about starting a small business for several years and even called it Lane and Noemia Creations. After 33 years of employment at the same company, I was given a three month notice of being laid off in late 2020. At that time, we decided to make the business official and registered with the state of Florida as Lane and Noemia Creations LLC. We have not had a business loss in the past three years, but we do not have a sustainable income from our business either.. Earlier this year, we both started working for a national not-for-profit organization doing part-time warehouse work. We keep trying new ideas for our business.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Prior to starting our small business, I, Lane, worked for a large medical device company as a software engineer. I was hired into this company six months out of college. As someone who does not like giving up, I stuck with the job and was hoping to remain until retirement. Out of my 33 years with the company, I was on the same project for 31 years. I hope to continue this “never give up” mentality into our small business. Noemia was a missionary for over 20 years. She also felt the call to never give up until God told her that her missionary time was to come to an end. Shortly after that, God brought us together as husband and wife.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We have several unique places in or near South Florida. It is always good to take a trip to Everglades National Park to be able to see pristine Florida. Key West is only a few hours away and a very popular spot to watch the sunset. We eat Dolphin, otherwise known as Mahi Mahi. Although there is something for people of all likes to do here, we seek out the more conservative places.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We take our faith very seriously. We didn’t just decide to start a business. We prayed about it. We called on God to guide us. When it looks like nothing is moving, we pray and then we get a project to do. Prayer is an essential part of all that we do.
