We had the good fortune of connecting with Ladaro Pennix and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ladaro, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I come from Long Beach, California, and my background has deeply influenced who I am today. It was through enduring struggles and hardships that I underwent a profound transformation. Growing up in a neighborhood plagued by gang activity, I had to fight relentlessly for everything I wanted. This led me down a path immersed in the street life, where hope often seemed elusive. It was a journey marked by unfortunate events that ultimately resulted in my prolonged incarceration.
However, it was during this challenging process that I experienced a profound shift in my identity. I learned to slow down my mind and truly appreciate myself, which in turn allowed me to value and cherish life. I began treating myself with kindness and started caring about my own well-being. As my sense of humanity expanded, I found myself driven to do more for others than for myself.
Moreover, I embarked on a journey of academic growth, earning multiple degrees. This newfound knowledge empowered me to establish various ventures, from a dispensary named Cannamuscle to magazine publications, music, and even becoming a published author and motivational speaker. It seemed as though the trials and tribulations of my life had uniquely prepared me to understand the struggles of others, and I used my experiences to connect with people on a deep level. Through sharing my perspective, I aimed to guide others away from following the path I once walked.
Overall, my challenging life experiences served as a catalyst for personal growth and enabled me to make a positive impact on the lives of others.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The path that led me to where I am today is a testament to my unwavering dedication and consistent effort. Refusing to let my circumstances dictate my future, I took deliberate steps to position myself for success. The journey began with educating myself in the entertainment industry, learning everything I could about my desired field. Through networking and connecting with the right individuals, I built valuable relationships that opened numerous doors for me. It wasn’t easy, given my incarceration, but I went above and beyond to earn people’s trust and show my reliability. The effort paid off, as it led to incredible opportunities and collaborations with renowned artists such as Snoop Dogg, Cappadonna of Wu-Tang Clan, Xzibit, Sean Kingston, Glasses Malone, LongBeach EWill, Tayf3rd, Rick Ross, Tha Chill, P-Nice, Donn John$on, Freeze, and many more.
What I am most proud of, however, is being able to pave the way for others in the hip-hop and entertainment industry. Creating a network that opens doors for individuals who would otherwise struggle to break through is immensely fulfilling. For me, it’s all about helping and being there for others, understanding that paying it forward is a powerful way to make a difference. Along the way, I learned the crucial lesson of never giving up on oneself. Being a champion of self, acting as both your own cheerleader and critic, ensures that you constantly strive to reach your potential. Failure was never an option for me, and I remained focused on defying my doubts.
I want everyone to know that the Monsta Yo movement is more than just a catchphrase—it’s a revolution. It embodies audacity, hope, determination, and hard work, showcasing how one can overcome adversity. My brand represents clothing, music, filming, documentaries, publications, humanitarian work, and inspiration. It’s about uplifting the underdog, showing them their worth, and leading them towards their purpose. The Monsta Yo movement is real because it is for the people, resonating with individuals who understand the struggles of being an underdog. People recognize my name and respond to my brand because it makes sense—it’s about empowering others and making a positive impact.
