We had the good fortune of connecting with Kwanisha Carson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kwanisha, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my business is Faith. It was a leap of faith that caused me to fully step into the beauty industry. I did hair for years but it was always as back-up plan and side work. Prior to this transition, I was working full time for the state. After being extremely stressed due to the work load I knew I had to make a change . It took a leap of faith to quit my full time Social Work Job and pursue hair/lashes full time. When I resigned, I had no plan nor did I have a job lined up. All the provisions and opportunities that led me to where I currently am came after I decided to step out on faith and allow God to direct the rest. It took a strong desire and resilience to continue to stay on course because there was so much opposition along the way.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Diverse Trends Hair and Lash Studio is a private appointment-only studio located in Lexington, SC. I offer a slew of services including braided styles, blowouts, relaxers, extensions including braided and braidless sew-ins, bonded and tape-in extensions, crochets, ponytails, natural hairstyles, brow shaping, brow tinting, lash lifts and tints and lash extensions.

I specialize in traditional sew-ins, braided styles, and classic lash extensions.

What sets me apart from others is my the atmosphere I create in my studio, my level of professionalism, customer service, and knowledge of services.

I am extremely proud of my reputation for classic lashes. I have managed to retain a large clientele with great success. Some clients I’ve serviced for years and they have healthy growing lashes and have not experienced any damage or traction alopecia.

I am where I am today because of a vision. I had no clue I would be a business owner until a vision of a salon in 2018. I talked with those in the industry and other business owners and received guidance on how to get to where I am now. Of course now that I’m here, I have an even bigger vision for Diverse Trends. I know where I’m headed and I know where I will be in the future takes time. I just have to remain consistent and remind myself daily that even when it doesn’t seem like it’s going to plan, it is.

Opposition is my businesses coowner. It was there before Diverse Trends evolved and hasn’t left. I faced major opposition opening February 2020, a month before the shut down due to Covid and continued to face challenges henceforth. Are they all of the same caliber, of course not. I face personal challenges as well. I recently faced a major change in my life but regardless of the circumstances, it doesn’t change how I run my business. That will always be consistent.

Have discipline, have a financial reserve and Don’t fold. Being a business owner is hard. You have to know that being an entrepreneur is what you are called to. Most people especially in this up and coming generation see the flexibility, income and all other pros to being self employed but never consider the sacrifices that have to be made. It’s not until you are experiencing a slow week, no sick/annual/holiday pay and many other factors that contribute to a loss of income,
that the real deal behind running a business is seen. You have to be wise with your money and save.

As the owner of Diverse Trends Hair and Lash Studio, I don’t just like to identify it as business but more importantly an atmosphere. Anyone coming in is sure to be uplifted coming out. That coupled with a beauty enhancement is a Diverse Beauty experience!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So my friend is visiting, for breakfast we would go to Breakfast a Ruiz. For the afternoon we would go to River front park or the Dam if we wanted to walk or be outdoors. For the more eventful afternoon we would do Axe Throwing, paint-balling or Frankie’s. For lunch, outside patio at Publico. For the evening we may go dinner at Cola’s or Mediterranian Tea Room. To end the night we may go to Urban Tiki, The Grand or find something to do in the Vista.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Yes of course, First Lady Holmes. I declare she hears it all from family affairs, personal hang ups, business struggles and successes. She has always been there as my spiritual counselor and mentor and has always assured that she is only one call away. She and my Pastor has helped me tremendously with decisions that have changed the course of my life. Shaynees, one of my best friends, she has seen the good and the bad. In character and out of character and she still sees me the same. She has been such a great support for all that I have been and currently am facing. My mom, dad and grandma who has been a major help and support to allow me to work and know that they have my back. I save the best for last, my baby girl Elle, if only she knew the joy that her smiles and giggles brings me. I can never give up knowing I have her to support and that she is watching me every step of the way!
