We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristen Benson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristen, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I wanted to do something that I was passionate about that would make a difference in the world. My goal is to help people be less afraid of getting behind the lens and love the way they look in the pictures. I especially enjoy working with entrepreneurs and businesses with amazing products and services who need help marketing to reach a larger audience. By providing them with a large gallery of custom personal branding and candid marketing images, I help them build their business and reach thousands, if not millions, of people.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love to challenge myself with all types of photography so that I can capture the beauty and emotion of any situation I walk into. My areas of expertise are Personal Branding, Candid Marketing, Event, Maternity, Engagements & Pet photography. I have experience in several other forms of photography (such as weddings, family portraits, and vacation rentals) and am always open to trying new styles.

Photography isn’t just my career or a hobby. Even when I’m not working, I take pictures of everything and anyone that inspires me. Candid photography is what I am naturally the best at. I want to document every little thing because moments are fleeting; photos keep those special moments alive forever.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
It’s a must to go to the Knights stadium in Uptown Charlotte; especially for their Christmas event of lights, food booths, ice skating/tubing, music and more. They have the most beautiful view of the Charlotte skyline as their background.

During the warmer months, I’d recommend Tubing down the Catawba River to the River Walk in Rock Hill and grabbing a delicious smoothie, salad and/or sandwich at Blend River Walk.

Check out El Thrifty Mexican restaurant in Optimist hall; especially on Taco Tuesdays. They have great vibes, drinks, food, and games.

End your night at Jeff’s Bucket Shop karaoke bar on Montford with talent, drinks, and music.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of my parents, my best friends, and the love of my life. My parents have continuously supported me and invested in me and my dream. My besties and their families have been wonderful models and test subjects that have helped me grow through my learning process. The love of my life has been the most patient model, helpful photography assistant, and the ultimate hype man!
