We had the good fortune of connecting with Kori Borneman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kori, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
I am a new first time momma to a 5 month old boy while simultaneously starting a new business. While I do LOVE a challenge this has been the hardest AND the most joyous time of my life.

While Max is still young it’s imperative to be present when I am at home with him. I do not want to be on my phone, answering emails, taking calls…I want to be present. I intentionally remove the “business owner hat” and the “momma hat” goes on.

At the end of the day I’m building a successful business for my family, they are my priority.
I know Max will see my work ethic as he grows. My hope is to be a role model for him so he can grow up to be a successful businessman AND family man one day!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been a nurse for 14 years and a nurse practitioner for 5 years. I previously worked in the newborn ICU, Primary Care, Urgent Care and now aesthetics for over 2 years. I love preventive medicine and wellness. What sets me apart from others is my mission to marry preventative medicine with aesthetics. This approach yields more natural results! I want the world to think of Opal as a comfortable place where they feel welcomed and leave feeling like the version of themselves. Overjoyed not overdone!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love when friends come to visit and I can show therm around Johns Island. We would grab breakfast at Kiss Cafe then go for a walk at the Stono Ferry County Park. Lunchtime we would grab a salad and afternoon Coffee at Island Provisions then head out to Kiawah and do some shopping at Freshfeilds. Happy hour would be next at Somm Wine bar and then a then end the day with a cozy dinner at Wild Olive.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people who have helped make the opening of Opal a success! From my husband who gave me the confidence to start Opal, our marketing team Matchstick Social who brought our brand to life, our design team Kelly Caron who made our office feel like home, the list goes on and on. My loudest shoutout is to my business partner Audrey! We could not have made Opal a reality without her. She is the ying to my yang, my right hand and Opals biggest cheerleader.
