We had the good fortune of connecting with Kiran Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kiran, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am from Greenwood, SC but I grew up in a small town called Ninety Six. I feel like my background and upbringing had a lot of impact on who I am today because it makes me look at life in various of ways. My father was in the military so he taught me how to survive, how to live in a world full of chaos but still able to find peace within it. My mother was a nurturer but also a very strong independent woman which she taught me how to be resilient and persistent in the things that I want in my life and nothing is never handed to you, you have to work hard for it.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I say that I am an artist because I don’t like to put myself in a box. I sing, I write music, play piano, and now I’m learning about the business side of things as well. The things that I am most proud of is just following my dreams and doing the things that I said that I was going to do. Some of the things I am excited for is just what’s to come and not knowing what is it that’s coming, but just knowing that when it comes it will be amazing! It’s like when you just get that feeling that you just know something good is about to happen. I wouldn’t say that I’m where I want to be professionally, but I won’t say that I haven’t gotten somewhere either because I have, and I’ve been able to do that by meeting some great people in the industry that gives me great advice and jewels to the game, and also just networking with people connecting with people. as well and just taking risks. I feel like in life when you really want something and working towards it nothing is never easy. I overcame the challenges that I’ve faced by just hitting them head on and getting through them and yeah it may hurt along the way but the hurt was necessary to be able to see the strength within myself. Some lessons I learned along the way is you can’t trust everybody even if you know that person or been around them. Another is don’t take everything to heart and don’t get your feeling intertwined with business, because business is business its not personal, so just being able to control my emotions. To be honest I want the world to know that through my music is that music truly does heal broken hearts. I have always felt that and that’s even my brand and what I would like to show the world. No matter what you go through or been through music can get you through, it can bring people together, make people angry, upset, all kinds of feelings. Its a major part in everybody lives and if I can be impactful in that way I have done my job.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m not even going to lie I am a homebody to the fullest haha, and as my homie he should know that, but we would definitely go check out some food spots a couple of bars maybe and then we hitting the studio every day. I recently moved to Charlotte, NC so we would both be exploring together.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to My Village. When I say My Village I’m talking about my family, the ones that’s been there for me when at times I wanted to honestly give up and not even do music anymore. I learn something different from each and every one of them, thy may not know but they definitely have a huge impact on my life and I can’t wait to be able to show them that.
