We had the good fortune of connecting with Kim Black and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kim, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am a child of a military father. My father was in the navy on a submarine, which means we moved to different states many times. I was actually born in Honolulu, Hawaii. The constant relocation and transitions enabled a different kind of flexibility in my life. I learned and experienced many different people and their cultures. The military housing was like a rainbow family of many colors. Now that I am older, I see how no experience is waisted in our lives. The constant moving prepared me for itinerate speaking and ministry to all races of people.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets me apart from others is my goal is to build people and not to build business. In building people, the business always grows. I love sharing the genuine power of transformation through Christ. His presence and His word empowers us. I absolutely love helping people discover destiny, purpose and their true identity.
I shouldn’t have been surprised I’d marry a visionary. My husband of 34 years, came into my life and had a desire to start a ministry. We launched in 1996 and founded Dominion Ministries International. Our vision is to prepare a people of purpose, producing a powerful church. We want the love of the Father to ignite lives into destiny and stability.
I was always interested in counseling and helping people get through their storms. In my early years, I signed up for every certification I think there was in counseling, coaching and inner healing. Later, I studied at Liberty University and earned degrees in Psychology and Christian Counseling. I decided to further my education at Regent University and received a Masters in Strategic Leadership. It was my sheer love for Jesus and his word which sent me to seminary and I received a Doctorate in Theology.
Ultimately, a burning desire to write and teach led me to develop and begin schools of training, The 318 Company, ROAR Prophetic Ministry and Women Who Roar and their curriculums.
Now, I spend most of my time speaking, teaching coaching, mentoring and writing.
The business side of coaching has been a blessing and income stream for my family. Helping people set goals and achieve them has been amazing.
Getting to this place in my life was not easy. Pouring out and helping people can many times go without natural reward. I got really sick for a season and learned about truly ‘being’ and not performing. We are valuable whether we are standing on platforms or sitting by the oceanside. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt, there is a greater reward of fulfillment and satisfaction when we are doing what we were created to do.
I’ve learned many lessons on my journey. We must remember, change is necessary to continue to grow. In order to teach, we must continue to learn. We must remain teachable. Enjoy the moments before you and be truly present with others. Share your heart and learn to listen.
Through my writings and the sound of my life, I endeavor to share the heart of the Father, our Bridegroom. It is my ultimate goal to make His name famous.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Yorktown Beach is a beautiful landmark in Virginia. We would go on the weekend when the Farmer’s Market is open to enjoy the hometown produce and family favorites. We would then enjoy the restaurants on the strip, especially the RiverWalk.

We would then break out our chairs and enjoy the peaceful water and outdoor music! His voice is as the sound of many waters.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out my husband, Sammie Black Jr. He allowed me to grow and experience my dreams. He is always supportive and willing to sacrifice for me to soar. He always says, “I am his garden and it has been his pleasure watching me bloom and grow.”
