We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin Pahl and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kevin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
As the old adage goes “If you can’t find something you’re looking for, might as well build it yourself!” And that hold true for our us too. As a family, we were always looking for a fun way to get our Christmas tree each year, that didn’t involve a far drive to the mountains or only last 15 minutes in the parking lot of a local grocery store. We really wanted to bring the magic of Christmas to life, for families just like our own, and felt that by starting our business, we could do just that.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
With many business adventures, you start in one place and then as your idea develops you realize that the final product is nothing like the first version of yourself. And that continues on and on until you find the right solution that sticks. This hold true for us as well. Where we started out and where we are today looks very different, but I’m proud of the way that we persevered to create an event that families enjoy coming to year after year.
As we move forward, we hope to continue to innovate and push the envelope on what is possible and are excited for what is to come!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love this question! I love where we live and love to show it off when friends and family come to town! For me, I like to do some form of physical activity during the day and then enjoy a nice meal out in the evenings. I like to hike and enjoy nature, so a favorite of mine is Paris Mountain State Park. There are very easy, yet beautiful hikes to there and we go quite a bit. After that, I’d take them to one of the many downtowns in the area to eat. While downtown Greenville is a popular choice, I personally like some of the more smaller intimate cities. Ie: Greer, Simpsonville, Travelers Rest etc. But there are plenty of great places to eat and enjoy the ambiance of the city!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
2 groups of people come to mind when asked this question. The first would be The Platform at Greer organization. It is a collection of entrepreneurs in the Upstate, that work together to achieve their goals through entrepreneurship. There are countless people who we have interacted with throughout the last 3 years, that have help mold us into what we are today and we couldn’t be more grateful.
The second group of people would be our families. Both Maggie’s (my wife) family and mine. Not only from an encouragement side, but also physically helping us run the day to day operations. Christmas at the Farm is an entire family affair, and it would be possible without their help.
