We had the good fortune of connecting with Karl de la Guerra and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karl, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Everyone deserves to feel safe. KDI Protective Services is in the business of providing peace of mind. An individual that feels threatened cannot focus on what they are required to do every day. When we assign a protection agent to an individual, that protectee knows they can go about their day not having to look over their shoulder or be concerned about the safety and security of themselves, their family or their business. All places where we may be assigned.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
When we launched Karl de la Guerra, Inc. in October of 2012, we had no idea it would expand to where we are today. Our operating company KDI Protective Services is now located in South Carolina, Texas and Arizona. And KDI Tactical Operations Training conducts instructional programs around the world. The people we protect and the knowledge we share are the hallmarks of our organization.
And anyone who knows KDI, quickly realizes that KDI is truly all about our people! It is the men and women that represent KDI around the world that set our brand apart from others.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We are very fortunate here in the Carolinas that we have a combination of so many activities. And being located right on the state line of North and South Carolina gives us some unique opportunities. I would say, the first place we take anyone is to our favorite team restaurant Protofino’s at Red Stone. The atmosphere and staff have always made us feel welcome.
Of course, we always have some cool, new gear to try out, so a trip to The Range at Ballantyne is not far off.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My story would not be what it is today without the guidance, direction and mentorship that George Popper, the Founder of the International Bodyguard & Security Services Association (IBSSA) has given me over the past 19 years. George’s leadership has sculpted my story from an international perspective and has made opportunities available to me that I would never have imagined possible.
While we may be geographically seperated, his influence is felt daily in my interaction with our membership around the world.
