We had the good fortune of connecting with JW The makeup nerd and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi JW, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Growing up I was very artistic, I always knew that I wanted a career that involves art. Watching my mother run her own business also played a part in the process! She made me realize that I didn’t want to work for anybody, I wanted to work for myself. As I got older, I started getting into makeup, I started to feel more confident and free to be me. I took it as a way to express my artistic side and use people’s faces as a the perfect canvas.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe what sets me apart from others is the way I make my clients feel emotionally. I also highly encourage my clients to believe in “If you look good, you feel good” Because mental and emotional health is very important and I believe that a little pampering from time to time can help improve! I feel like you have to get on that level with you clients in order to truly connect. I also feel like showing my clients how well I can educate them can build that trust. It was definitely very hard to get where I am today, but I know I still have many more challenges to go through, and Im ready! Starting a business so young helps you also mature a little faster than your piers. Though, throughout the years Ive learned about self discipline, patience, and stepping out on faith!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I don’t really go out like that. I would probably take her to myrtle beach on the boardwalk!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to give a shout-out! I want to give a shoutout to Arzhane Smith, CEO of Life in Motion photography! She helped me build my business portfolio and made it very eye -catching. Some of the best projects I’ve done was because of her and she is always a pleasure to work with!
