We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Moss and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Justin, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I feel like I’ve always had a pretty high tolerance for risk. Growing up on a farm probably had something to do with it. I can remember being out in the fields with my brother when we were young, burning brush with just a chainsaw and some kerosene. It would probably be illegal today, but back then, that’s just how things got done.

I wouldn’t trade my blue collar upbringing for anything. It shaped who I am today. Farming teaches you the value of hard work, resilience, and resourcefulness—qualities that are vital to succeeding in the startup world.

What should our readers know about your business?
At its core, BarGlance is a community of nightlife enthusiasts. We’re the bridge between people who love to go out and the social experiences they’re seeking.

What sets us apart is our focus (obsession, honestly) on real-time information. Instead of relying solely on online reviews and static images, BarGlance captures and conveys nightlife as it’s happening. Our job is to help bar-goers find their ideal scene and vibe.

As a company, what I’m most proud of is our resilience and adaptability. Getting BarGlance off the ground was the hardest thing I’ve ever done—and, without a doubt, the most rewarding. Early-stage startups are brutal—the odds are stacked against you from day one. To me, the fact that we’ve come this far is a testament to how dedicated and determined our team has been

We’ve fully embraced the idea of constant iteration. Having a plan is essential, but what’s even more important is evaluating and evolving daily, especially if you’re in the tech space. If I were giving advice to a new founder, it would be: stay curious, stay agile, and stay the course.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
That’s tough because Charleston has so many great places. If I were to break it down by category, a few that stand out are:

Breweries – Revelry / Holy City
Cocktails – Gin Joint / Cocktail Club / Prohibition
Live Music – Henry’s / Music Farm / Pour House
DJ – Share House / Uptown Social (DJ Boogi is the man)
Seafood – 167 Raw / Hank’s / Bowen’s Island
BBQ – Lewis / Rodney Scott’s
Steak – Oak / Hall’s (best side dishes on earth)
Breakfast – Lost Dog / Page’s / Charleston Deli
Landmarks – Magnolia / Rainbow Row / City Market
Local Teams – RiverDogs / Stingrays
Beach – Folly / Sullivan’s

And my favorite place to hangout: Shem Creek, especially Tavern, Red’s and Saltwater.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We wouldn’t be here today without the generosity and belief of A LOT of people. In no particular order, and from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank:

Jason Harris, for inviting me into your life and opening my eyes to the power of technology.
Tripp Adams, for showing me how to sell, and for the thousands of miles we put in together.
Jesse Kasser, for being a brother in both business and life, and for showing me how to raise capital.
Carlos and the entire Dept team, for your patience, kindness, and persistence over these past few years.
Our partner bars, for taking a chance on a crazy startup, and for standing with us through the storms.
Our investors, for believing in us early on, and for keeping the dream alive.
Our friends and family, for supporting along the way, and for always doing more than you had to.
