Meet Justin Conway | Ninja Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Conway and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Justin, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Grit and determination. You can have an amazing product and all the fancy equipment in the world, the problems will constantly arise. In order to be a successful in business, the number one determining factor is grit! The ability to problem solve, stay positive and tough times, and keep going!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started my business from a need. I started training for Ninja Warrior and there was no place to find obstacles, so I started making them. It wasn’t too long before people requested that I make obstacles for them. I was able to combine my passion, problem solving skills, and business acumen, and create a business that allows me to build ninja courses for people all over the world.

It’s been extremely difficult to thrive in this business. I imagine many of the struggles I’ve faced echo similarly in other businesses – employees make mistakes and not showing up, vendors, making a mistakes and not fixing them, shipping companies destroying your equipment and not compensating you, difficult clients, and inclement weather… These are all just surface level, the issues that a small business owner faces cannot be properly summarized in less than a volume series. So the number one thing that has gotten us through it is grit. Dealing with the issues as they come and continuing to make great products that people find to be a value.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Generally, I think the most fun things are the things you haven’t done. Also, I love to experience things that are unique to a specific area. If someone was visiting Austin, Texas, I would take them on a electric bike tour around Austin where we would learn the history of this great city, kayak or stand up paddle board at ladybird lake, Have dinner and watch a movie yet. Alamo Drafthouse, get some ninja training in at a World Ninja Sport gym, see the bats at Congress bridge, go for a hike at sunset, eat some food truck grub, see a show at comedy mothership, and a music show downtown.

Everyone that has failed me. You’ve only made me stronger!
