We had the good fortune of connecting with Jujew Allen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jujew, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have always been a crafty kind of girl. I loved to do projects in grade school. I love the fact that you can be a painter, seamstress, hair stylist, braider, tattoo artist, architect, etc and it’s all apart of art if you really think about it. You can be creative in so many different ways. I think that’s mostly why I chose to be in the creative field. It’s like similar to starting out at the bottom of a company and becoming the CEO of the top way to be creative in the field you desire or multiple avenues even sometimes.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started sewing on a gut feeling and I have been making my way project after project ever since. It has not been easy as nothing that’s good comes easy and I like it that way. Challenge really does build character. I over come challenges by seeing them as opportunities to grow and to take corrective action. My biggest lesson I’ve learned this far is that you’re truly never doing enough because there’s always more work to be done. If the world needed to know anything about my brand it would be that even if you think it’s impossible, I’ll do my best to make it happen.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my bestie visited we would most certainly hit a lot of vegan friendly locations. Peace of Soul, Good Life, Reizod just to name a few. We would probably go to the park, a hike something nature friendly. She cooks a lot so I’m sure we would incorporate that as well. If we were to go out I’d probably take her to Space803 it’s a nice new night time venue we have here who has good food and a great atmosphere to unwind and mingle with others. We could visit some museums and it’s always a plus if they have wine lol we did this a lot in college because she was an art major. Columbia really does have a lot to offer you’d never know though if all you do is complain that there’s nothing to do here. You kind of have to broaden your what are you willing to explore in order to see beyond what’s always in your face.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to Amber. My long term soulmate. It’s truly a pleasure to have had someone so supportive along my side as I found myself and grew into the woman I am today. I appreciate all that you put up with from me and I wish you all the best in life and I hope you are loved the way you love for the rest of your life.
