We had the good fortune of connecting with John Dabrowski and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi John, how has your background shaped the person you are today?

I’m from Valparaiso, North West Indiana, from a blue collar area. My mom worked three jobs, in addition to taking care of her family. Her work ethic has inspired me to put my everything into Local every single day, and to expect the highest quality work from my employees..  Her kindness and empathy, I think, has also been instrumental in how I manage my business.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

We are a restaurant, bar, & private event space. We host various event throughout the year, including live music, trivia, theatre & shows. The team we have built is what we are most proud of. I opened up Local in August of 2020, which added more obstacles than usual. I am so grateful to the community, the “Locals” who have supported us since the beginning! I believe in what we are doing, and make our staff and our community’s well-being a priority in all my decisions. We are all-welcoming – from our employees to our guests – and we want everyone to feel kindness upon entering our doors. Our mottos are “Be Kind”, and “Local – it’s more than where you live, it’s how we make you feel”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favorite day time spots is Brookgreen Gardens – we would visit their multiple times during their stay! We would enjoy evenings at The Pit, listening to live music, after dinner at Chive Blossom. We are fortunate to have some of the most beautiful places to visit, from our beaches to our rivers, our golf courses, to the creek. The Strand is our little piece of paradise.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Our community in Pawleys Island has been instrumental in my success! I have felt supported in each milestone of what I’ve accomplished. I am most grateful for my friends, who are more like family, and the love they’ve shown Local.
