We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Saultz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I do believe that most of us business owners struggle with a work life balance. I was a mom of 2 at the time we started DINO BARS. We had moved from Germany to America and I was worried that if I would go back to my old carrier, I would have to work a 9-5 job. With that I would barely see my kids. For me that was not an option. So the only way out of that was starting my own business. What I learned the first year was that yes I could spend time with my kids whenever I wanted, but that meant I had to play catch up until late at night. The first year we worked every weekend and barely had any time to spend out of kids and DINO BARS. The more employees we hired the more we got our weekends back. That was the start of us setting boundaries and finding a balance between work and life. Now DINO BARS is set up as a business for moms. We do not work the conventional hours, our business is only open from 8am to 2:30pm. Wondering why? That is because this way we can drop our kids off for school/daycare and then pick them up again. I started this business because I wanted to spend time with my kids, so now I have a business that allows us moms to do that. I will spend my morning working and my afternoons with my family. That is what I call a work life balance!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The story of DINO BARS begins with the birth of my first child, Liam. Shortly after introducing solid food to Liam, we realized that he couldn’t tolerate refined sugars. Disappointed with the kids snack selection here, I started making snack bars for my kids. The snack bars were an instant favorite among kids and parents alike. We decided to put everything and more than we had into making DINO BARS, a fruit/vegetable snack bar wrapped in an edible paper. DINO BARS are produced in Charleston, South Carolina and are shipped anywhere within the US.

Was it easy, no. Is it fun, yes. What I have learned over the last few years is that you constantly need to adopt. Neither of us had a background in manufacturing, design,… but being a mom made gave

What’s in DINO BARS? What sets us apart? Only healthy all-natural ingredients including fruits, oats, hemp hearts, coconut oil and edible paper. They are available in five fun flavors – Strawberry, Blueberry, Mango, Sweet Potato Raspberry and Pineapple Carrot. Our bars are non-GMO, USDA certified organic and free from nuts, gluten, soy, and dairy. You won’t find artificial flavors, preservatives, or refined sugar either. Parents will love the edible paper wrapping as it keeps hands mess-free.

We are excited to expand our business with potential new flavors and products. Our goal is to provide healthy products that are accessible to everyone.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We love the Beach! It doesn’t matter if it’s warm or cold, the ocean water has something spiritual and relaxing about it. One of our favorite things to do is getting a cappuccino and a few croissants at our favorite French cafe, Café Panama, on Isle of Palms. Take them to the beach and hang out there all day. Then end the day with a good home cooked meal.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I was inspired by the story of RX Bars but am thankful for my husband and employees, because I could not do it without them.
